It is a low cost computer microscope which allows you to capture images at 10X, 60X and 200X directly to your computer.
It is made by Digital Blue. Apx. $90.00

Duckhawk nice pics with the QX5. Did you use any additional lighting when taking the pics? Can't seem to get the lighting right with mine.

No extra lighting on these shots, but I can see that I will need to work on the lighting on the silver coins as well as the MS copper.

I am looking at the QX5, is that all that is needed? Can you put an arrow towards the error of a coin with the software that comes with it?

Dyna_Willie to answer your question (and anyone else who want to know.)

Below are samples and I added some of the features the QX5 software it comes with.

As you can see.. Yes, you can add arrows but in 'freestyle' form, as seen here. I don't have a steady hand, could never draw a straight line without a ruler.
You can also 'flip' the image among other things.

"From this noob (I finally figured out that what I call newbie y'all call a noob), what is a qx5? Does it fight back?"
This newbie didn't know what it was either. Just today I took a few shots of a Mercury dime with a digital camera and they were terrible. I wound up putting it on my HP 7210 scanner screen to see any detail. The camera(Canon A520) is nothing special however I use it for pics of slabs in the past. It just doesn't focus well on close up shots. $100 range for the QX5 seems sweet, half the price of the antique digital I have had for several years.

Can't you take the pic with your QX5 then import to Photoshop and add extra stuff there?

Yes, it's easy to export from the QX5 and import into PS.

Great pics! I have a usb microscope (different brand) but have major issues with the lighting. These are great

As for your original question, I'd go with gas bubbles. Although the "plague of the boils" has merits as well

Mike, I started out with a MicroScience but the magnification was just too much - that one starts at 100x with no way to get any less than that. The one I use now is a Celestron. I was looking for some pics I posted that I had taken with it but the post is eluding me.. if I can find it I'll post a link to it.

I think they all are..

One good thing about the Celestron is the camera is not part of the microscope - it screws into the top where you would otherwise be trying to peek. So it's probably possible to apply the little camera to other uses. Maybe - I haven't tried... yet

The QX3, does not have all the bells and whistles the "5" has, but it does import, and export to any progran your computer uses. One of the "Pro's" I did not mention before.
