Here in Western Europe it's been like this for quite a while now: coin handling costs money. Buying rolls, having a bank making rolls of your change (forbidden in some countries to do that yourself) and depositing coins or rolls all cost you money. In addition, a Dutch bank (ABN) presented a plan today to charge customers for storing their money with them. That's correct, negative interest on your money.
So, go and enjoy in the US as long as it lasts! It seems that you still have many banks to choose from which won't charge you fees.

Quote: Try to ship 2 boxes of nickels and 4 boxes of Lincolns to someone, anyone.... Then tell me why they shouldn't charge you a fee. The people that handle, roll, and deliver those boxes don't work for free so you can find hidden treasures for free. Exactly. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone specifically but the entitlement attitude some have is somewhat alarming.

By the way... you pay no annual fee for having a bank account, you don't pay an annual fee for having a bank card, for having a credit card with them and just $1 for ATM transactions in foreign locations? Consider yourself lucky! I pay over $100 annually for those 'services' with my bank... and up to $5 for a 'foreign' transaction and over $1 for an ATM transaction with my bank... Not that other banks here are better, though...

You say .... entitlement ? .... No...no...no...lol Please don't make me repeat all the long paragraphs where THEY use MY money AND charge ME to do so. Yes I agreed to put my money in their care so that they can use it in all their business money making ventures. I don't charge them, nor do I get a percentage of their profits. As I pointed out, on the business account, they never paid us one red cent of interest on millions of dollars over decades....no, in fact they CHARGED us for keeping it. So...." entitled " ?.... hmmm... I don't get that perception considering all this....you have to think outside the box. It's like a legal acceptable crime...lol Only the Mafia would be able to do this up front, tell you what they're gonna do, and have you expectantly participate because everybody wins, but they win the most. It's just "business".... Yeah "business" that's loaded on one side as a "service"...for them to make 100% of the opportunity and you holding an empty bag scratching your head going..."Wait a second, how is this right and fair and even LEGAL?" Where does the bank get off feeling "entitled" to take and use my money to make money for themselves without asking me or sharing in the profits they make ? This is the Gambino Crime Family credo.... We'll do a favor for you....lol This is some favor alright ! Nice job banks....ya have everybody bamboozled and thinking that this okay for a couple centuries now. We're just not supposed to look at things this way.... I shouldn't dare feel "entitled" to look through change for "little treasures" while they have THIS practice of "entitlement" going on with my money. The sheer audacity of me ! How dare I ... And they have agreed and never charged for doing this FOREVER, until now. The bank is entitled to hold our money, use our money, make profits with our money, not share these profits or even ask you about what they're doing with your money, and charge you for the practice. "Entitled" ....good word....lol

A bank is a business. You don't get a say in how they run their business. Just because you THINK they should do things one way and they do things a different way means absolutely nothing. Banks do not exist for the benefit of CRH. The sooner people realize that, the better.

To the mattresses and backyards with our money ! They will "serve us" no longer ! Let them get their own money for their "business" and not have ours any longer to use !

This is an interesting discussion. Here are my $.02. I can think of some reasons how my banks benefits from my coin rolling:
1) I take out all of the foreign coins. This cleans up the quality of the coins in their system, and I take the loss.
2) I replace all missing coins. When I get, say, a dime roll missing three dimes, I always return in full roll, and I take the loss.
3) I try to exchange wisely rather than dump freely; for example, I'll exchange two boxes of nickels and two boxes of pennies for one box of dimes; or some combination. This way I don't swamp the branch's coin inventory. Also they are less likely to reprocess all of the coins back through the system because of an excess of one kind of coin.
4) I roll all of the coins.
5) I try to dump in mixed coin combinations rather than just one kind of coin at a time. Today a teller said something along the lines, "Thanks for these; now we don't have to order boxes for this week." Several times I have been thanked for bringing in coins, or thanked for exchanging rather than dumping.
Because of the above, the banks are arguably getting a higher quality inventory of rolled coins than before I showed up. The above considerations identify some benefits above having my bank account money in their accounts.

My experience in Australia is that banks have never been sympathetic to CRH'ers.
No profit in this sort of activity for them.

I can only confirm the banking situation in Northern Europe. Few banks even bother with cash and the ones that do seems rather hostile towards non-account holder. I couldn't even split a banknote at one without an account!
Other banks have incredible fees and CRH'ing is out of the question. Sadly, all things silver are gone soon. All of you should be happy you're off so lucky. I really hate parts of the banking industry, odd priciples and money-before-all are some things I just hate.

It used to be that business accounts cost you -- just for coins and daily deposits etc. -- which worked out okay if you had a little store or restaurant.
But they don't want anybody using money any more. They want everyone to use plastic or electronic transfers. So besides all the other fees, they will get a tiny little fee on EVERYTHING.
If purchases can't be tracked electronically, how can they keep track of you of terrorists?

What are businesses in business to do? I think that the answer you arrive at will determine which side of the fence you are on whether banks should or shouldn't charge fees for boxes of coins.

I don't believe ordering a few boxes of coin a week is too much to ask... Some people forget that the FED needs banks to distribute cash and coin into circulation... Fees for coin and cash from the armored carriers are minimal ... I've seen the bank invoices . Although some do take advantage by ordering many boxes and returning to same bank branch to swap them out
