Ok, they pay postage, but they get a receive a monster discount. They pay anywhere from 8.5 - 17 cents per parcel.

I recently got a check in the mail for 5 bucks, saying I could cash it and keep the money, but they were wanting an optional donation. They said on the letter that they hope I don't cash it, so I just trashed it and called it even: no give no take!

Double Posts? I thought you were just trying to stress a point.

Not intending to drag this out but let me ask anyone reading this a question. Since we started discussing a Nickel, just what obligation would you consider it necessary if instead of a Nickel, they sent you a Morgan silver dollar? How about a normal, common date Standing Liberty Half Dollar? Just what type of coin would it take for you to send them some money? such a suggestion might be heard and become a reality.

i don't trust charities that send ya money, to give them money, ya never know where the money you donate is going. id rather have them send me receipts of what they spent the money on, then I most likely donate

I receive quite a few phone calls from folks requesting donations (fallen police, sheriff's ranch, several desease-based, etc). I donate to a couple charities each year. All those that call (or write) and beg I just inform them that I already donate to charities I have already chosen

It seems like a gamble for a charity to be giving away money when they supposedly need people to contribute to their cause. I'd also be worried about where my money was going. If I had gotten the nickel, I'd probably drop it in the change jar. I can't see the sense in spending 8X the value to send it back to them.

Justcarl is so right! I gave to the breast cancer fund in St. Louis and the next thing you know, I got American Lung Assoc., Heart Assoc., Diabetes Assoc., and Alzheimers Assoc requests for me to make a donation. SOOOOOO, the Breast Cancer guys sold my name--I wonder how much they make selling our names from one company or organization to another--Does anyone know? Gussyboy1 Seems I opened a can of worms!
