Received the email notification from my Mint Rep yesterday and promptly ordered just the Maple Leaf Silhouette coin.

Admittedly the price is a little steep when compared to the 2016 baby feet coin with a similar mintage.

That said, I think it will be a hot item and is reminiscent of the reflection coins issued last year.

I didn't order the coloured 1oz version of the original and would have also passed on this one were it not for the Canada Geese.

Hopefully, you bought it , cause you like the design.

The mintage is 15000, correct?
Doubtfully demand will be high...

The Maple Leaf Shaped coin mintage is 22,000. One of the highest mintage NCLT coins outside of the x for x series. Its a nice looking coin and is half the price of the 1 oz Maple Leaf shaped coin.

Plenty to go around, so will it be "hot? No.

The first coin sold out rapidly and held its value for the most part. Then came the second which is not doing as well with it still available at issue price. Now this is the 3rd maple leaf shaped coin. How much more are they going to milk this design?

Definitely no hesitation and not at all concerned over the projected mintage. Unlikely the RCM will produce all 22,000 if the demand doesn't warrant it.

@New1954: Let's keep the focus on discussions of the coins in the August release - please!

@Proof Nut: The silhouette coin is definitely an attractive piece. I noticed you mentioned that it was the coin's inclusion of Canadian Geese that triggered you to buy it - do you collect coins featuring geese as a subset of your overall collection?

Though the coin isn't cheap, it is the least expensive maple leaf-shaped coin the RCM has released so far - a good entry point for many collectors.

I hope you enjoy it!

Please update this thread with an image of your coin when it arrives.

The full application of colour over the engraving captures the beautiful complexities of Wanduta's traditional regalia, circa 1913.

I noticed this in the description of the Wanduta coin on the RCM web site - I'm intrigued.

Has the RCM mastered the art of colour printing over engraved surfaces? To date, I believe the colour on most (all?) of its coins has been applied over flat surfaces. If the colour really is applied over an engraved Wanduta portrait, it could really be a big step forward.

Would be great to hear the impressions of a purchaser of the coin when they have it in hand.

Wasn't the 2016 Iconic Canada Polar Bear promoted as the first? However it was only one colour, icy blue.

Commems, this thread may answer that question:

https://goccf.com/t/265647

I believe this is the technique the RCM used.

Should have it by the end of next week. Will try scanning the coin or taking a photo of it if possible.

Anyone keeping track of the sales of this and some of the other items?

Yes, wait list upon wait list but none indicated to be approaching sellout. We've gone down this road before....Cabbage Patch Doll marketing 101, create the illusion of limited quantities and watch what a motivator that becomes.

However I notice the maze coin now indicates 79% sold. But that's still fairly low, not really a good sign considering the promotion and release of it is already yesterday's news.

Colonial Acres listed the August release.

They have $30 Illuminated Underwater Reef (GITD coin) for issue price, limit of 5 per customer.

With such availability, not sure, that these worth mass loading.
Oh, well, the 2013 Gold Superman coin was available for all no limits...

Colonial Acres is now down to 5 coins. Probably will sell out soon. Better act fast if you wish to order from them.

Edit: sold out now at Colonial Acres

Still no sign of the Silhouette coin nor a mention of the expected shipping date which has since been removed.

Interesting that many of the dealers have them already which gave me an opportunity to handle the coin. Originally I had hoped to have it over a week ago which would have gone nicely with the meeting topic on Ornithology.
