Quote: the reeding is all wrong...fake I think you must have meant the denticles are all wrong. The edges of a coin are reeded, but can't be seen in either photo.

To me it looks like one of the products from the Chinese fake makers. And I agree about the crenulated rim or denticles- not reeding. Reeding or a milled edge is not shown in the pictures.

Agree with the crowd appears to be a low quality modern fake - they didn't even try to copy the design

It's not genuine, but you didn't say what size it is. Is it half dollar or dollar size? If it's half dollar siz, at least some of the detail is closer to the real thing, although anyone who is familiar with 1795 half dollars could spot that one instantly.

Fake, as already noted several times. But I'd keep it if I were you as an example of a counterfeit. Not a great counterfeit, but they are always kinda interesting, or at least I find it so.

Quote: @nss-52 go to the flea market and buy a box of world coins you never know what you will get. Ah, OK, you bought the "box of things" with the fake in it, rather than just "found a box" as stated. If you decide to keep it, I would keep it in something clearly marked that it is a counterfeit. That way, some day, your heirs won't think they have found a fortune only to be disappointed.
