Oh Darn! daviscfad, you went and told everybody! Now I will have competition getting the Canadian cents for free! Just kidding! It is a good possibility that a large amoubt will be "melted, if the ban on melting the US cent is ever lifted.

Over the course of three years or so of looking through Pocket Change and looking through the occasional roll, I ended up with a lot of canadian pennies.

One day, I was at my dealers and saw a used whitman Candian cent album for $0.25. I bought it and have over half of it filled. Definitely cool.

Dick plans to own all these cents and corner the market!
A clever man--because I suspect interest in Canadian coins will grow over time, and demand will likely grow for the lower mintages.
On the other hand, I simply enjoy collecting these coins.

Kurt, yes, and you have read my mind! You should have a smile on your face, about now. I believe you know why. I dound some more Can. cents, today, all mixed in with the foreugn coins. I culled out all the cents, nickels, and quarters. Cost me a swabuck.
The nickels are:
1961-3,
1964-1,
1972-2,
1973,
and 1975,-1.
The quarter is 1976. The cents are ready to be checked, over a roll.

Can one obtain rolls of canadian pennies for face value in the US? I am very surprised the Canadian pennies are composed of 98% copper up to '96. Is it illegal to melt Canadian Pennies? -PP

Zulu "puts them in a jar"! He must live near me, I donm't see a Canadian cen come out of the rolls, unless one has sorted thru a dozen boxes. Then maybe oone needs a jar.
I bought a "handfull" yesterday, mixed in with the "foreign coins" in a coin shop. After going thru both dishes of coins I ended up with a roll of cents, 9 nickels, and 1 quarter. The cents were 6 for a dollat. I paid $10.00 for the lot. Needless to say, I "cherry-picked" a nice haul! the fact that I could not see the coins well enough to be sure all were cents, resulted in three coins, two were "new pennys< from ?, and a chinese coin! The shop keeper/owner helped me sort out the cents.I'll post pgotos og the three "odd-balls", and some one can tell me what they are. Okay?

Dick, I hope you find some more '49 ATs! There's gotta be more out there...

Re "pennies @ melt". I don't know about you, but I plan to melt my horde of bulk pennies into large bricks. That way, when the economy collapses, I'll emerge from my underground bunker with my "copper bullion" to barter for food, water, and other necessities. Just kidding folks!

Kurt, there was ONE '49, and it was clearly between! Some one asked if one could get US cents at face for Canadian cents. Yes. I got 22 roills of circ's, and 4 rolls ot 2007 UNC, for the same in IUS cents, (yes, 4 2007 BU cents, US. We "ate the S&H on each end. All I got was a lot of Canadian cents, and learned that there is a lot of steel floating around, up north! It did help my inventory, but not me folders. The one who helped in that respect was Kurt. Referring to the folders. My thanks for his tereless efforts. Melt Can. cents? Don't even think of that, some jerk will figure a waty to stop all "cross the border swapping", and then we will be "S.O L! Actually, I look for the demand for CAnadian cents to rise sharply, after the new '09 cents start to come out, with all the different reverses, and not enough around to fill a folder. then we will see just how high the values will go! Hoard ZINC, US type, nope, and the copper I have is going to stay right where it is! I save my wheats in 5-gal plastic Soybean sauce buckets. Holds about 90 pounds, at 7/9 full. Don't trust the wire handles for very long!
