I get the sense that this is zinc, but it would be a good idea to weigh it. Nice find!

Type I or II blank planchet? Is the second pic a striking error?

Looks like a blank planchet.

As posted ... the weight would be a good start of
figuring out what it is.

Type one is a blank.
Type two is a planchet.
The step to turn type one into a type is call an upsetting mill. That mill raises a rim on the outside of the of the coin. It turns a blank into a planchet This coin has the rim, so it is a planchet. It is not longer a blank. So the term "blank planchet" is incorrect because it is either, but can't be both. So the rim makes it a type two planchet.

Think we'd see more evidence if so.

Trying to wrap my head around it wondering if showing an incomplete clip or a stain. Again I think we'd see evidence on both sides if incomplete clip. Hard to see if indent is clearly present on the one side so leaning towards a stain at this time. Thanks, Doug.

If it were a striking error, the opposite side would be affected also. Probably more of an issue of staining from another planchet.

I doubt that it is. The opposite side would show a start of the strike as well. It would be line a low pressure strike. (which it is not)

Note the weakness of the strike on the dollar planchet. (silver in color)

The planchet is smooth not raised, I think it could be a stain.

I agree that a stain is most likely.
