I, too, like the Barber series, and have been putting a little more concentration toward them here lately. I've got all but the 1892-O, 1892-S, and 1893-S Barber halves - still missing 7 of the Barber quarters to complete that set, and need 15 of the Barber dimes to complete that set. I think they are under-appreciated right now, but given all the new collectors coming on line with the start of the State Quarters and the Presidential dollars, it's posible that, given time, alot of those new collectors will take an interest in the Barber series since, for the most part, they are relatively easy to come by at an affordable price. I can understand why you collect barbers; they're probably my favorite design along with the early small eagle reverse coins...

SeatedNut: Check the mintmark on that 1909 S half dollar. I am pretty sure that it is the inverted mintmark variety.
(Hey, I can brag, I discovered it.)
Good luck.

This is what I found on the top of the pile! Do the 5 Cents Count?

Nope Jeffery, Barber coinage only consists of the Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar.

ShadowCreator: Thanks, They look the same but reversed heads. I was looking through my stuff and that was the closest!
PS: What is the proper term for these? Nickels?

In high grades, they actually look quite different. In low grades however, I suppose I could see the resemblence. They're usually referred to as ' Liberty nickels', or ' V nickels'. Key date is 1885, I think.

mfry, I always had the impression that I would not like a set of Barber coins in G to VG. However, seeing those in the album pages has changed my mind. They look really nice. I am going tostart a set of the halves. A most attractive set of coins.

rohumpy, yes, G to VG probably is the grade on most, and maybe there is a fine in there or maybe even a VF, but that's pushing it. I think he has a set of dimes and quarters to in the Barber series. I bought a Buffalo nickel set from him, just because it was about what I could afford. He didn't have them all, but enough to make it fun. He also has a SLQs in a set, a Walking Liberty set, a Large cent set, and more. Man, I wish I had an uncle who would leave me that kind of find. Wouldn't that be fun! I approximated the worth of the whole set, and I said $12,000 to $20,000. I may be way off, but that's what I came up with. I told him, just hold on to them, and when the kids get ready for college - 8 to 10 years, then sell them and help with college expenses if you don't want them, or sell them now - coins are really HOT right now. What do you think?
