I spent the better part of two weeks freeing an 1905 indian (liberty with feathers) cent from an acrylic cube last winter. If I'd known you collected encased, I'd have sent it to you!

I happen to find them on an auction site, sometimes I bet on them. I have slowed lately.

So what do you think about this ASE in the diamond? Gift to mint workers to celebrate the millennium?

Hey! Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it. I know about what the coin itself is worth...that's not what I mean. I know about the coin s and I know the Encased Coin sets. I want to know about THIS EXACT paperweight. This specific paperweight, the 2000 liberty dollar in the diamond-shaped acrylic. The one seller I can find for this specific item says: "In 2000, dealers who were involved with the retail sale of US Silver Eagle Coins, and on the official US Mint Dealer List, received these as a token gift from the mint." I just want to know if anyone here knows if this is correct or not, and about how much it is worth if the item is rare. Thanks again! PS Fuzzy...cool collection!

There was one listed on ebay awhile back with a $499 BIN price. It failed to sell, so there's an upper limit for its price (the guy with the listing at $1000 is going to be disappointed). About this particular gift... it's going to depend on who wants one and how bad they're wanting it. If I walked in to my LCS and they had one sitting on some papers and I asked if they would sell it, they would likely invite me to make an offer. Unless they were really attached to it, I'm guessing $100 would buy it. What have you paid for similar, Fuzzy?

By the way, to the CCF, hyenacub. We may not have all the answers in this case, but there are lifetimes worth of knowledge among the members who read and write in these forums [fora?]. And does your mother know you call yourself hyenacub?

For the ASE above, at today's spot price I wouldn't go more than $50-75. Now if it was a special date or from my hometown bank or several other things that would add value for me, that may go higher. edited price range

By playing with keywords I just found your answer: one sold on ebay in mid-December for $35. Probably not what you were hoping.

Biedercoins-thanks for the info! I *was* interested on if it managed to sell in the past for th higher prices. It gives me an idea of where to list it at. Thanks for the welcome! I love coins, though can't really afford to get them often. I'm definitely going to be prowling the forums. : D Well I didin't think it would sell for hundreds, so it's not a hugee disappointment. I don't know why I couodln't find it though. Thanks for the assist! My mom passed away a yer ago. But she did know I called myself hyenacub...XD It's the useername I most often use. Hyenas are my favorite animal. Most people online call me Cub or Cubby. c: I actually have a Sacagawea dollar in a round paperweight that is favorite of mine. : D

Sorry about your Mom. Since this was hers, maybe it's best to just keep it, at least for now. Once you've reached the requisite number of posts (check rules and regulations in new member forum), you'll be able to list it here where there is a more discerning crowd . Catch you later, Cubby.

How much did you list it for?

First off, welcome to the forum, glad you found us to answer any questions.
Here's my 2 cents. Unless it has a COA, it doesn't appear to have any indication that it is from the mint, which will severely limit any resale value. To us, it is a $20 coin stuck in a hunk of plastic that can be made in any garage with a coin, a mould and a can of liquid acrylic, worth about $20 plus $15 worth of effort.
To you it is a priceless memory of your Mom that is irreplaceable. Put it on a shelf, put it on your desk, put it on your tchotchke table and everytime you look at it, remember Mom and smile.

How could it be really expensive? You can do it yourself with stuff you can buy at an art supply store. Just have a mold in the right shape. To "suspend" something in the middle, pour and let dry the bottom half before pouring the top half. https://www.michaels.com/castin-cra...0558114.html

moxking I tried it at 75. If I get it, cool. If not, nothing lost and I'll relist it at a lower price. c: denco7 Hello. As I said, my mom's friend gave us a lot of things from the mint, like proof sets and the like. He said it was from the mint. :shrug" I suppose he could be lying, but I don't think he was. The other auction on ebay had the box and everything with it, so I'm pretty sure it was legit. I don't make any sure claims in the listing, though, because I'm *not* 100 percent sure. As for my mom, we lived in the same house until she died. I have an entire house of things of hers that make me smile. I have a while shelf in my living room as a memory shrine to her. This coin has non emotional attchment to it so I will sell it because I need to pay my utilities. I appreciate wht you're telling me, but I have plenty of hers as memories. The things tht truly remind me of her. This paperweight was usually buried on her desk with papers. Andrew...no clue. All I know is it's supposedly a dealer only doodad from the mint--there are pictures of it with its box on the other ebay auction from someone who (as they say) got it from the mint so.. and otherwise, if not, it looks cool. I know how to mold things. I took shop class. Anyway. Thanks for your input. Sorry if I offended anyone. c:
