@Pokermandude - hope your opinion is right on...
@dollarman, yes the pics did work for me but I'm also thinking that the color was making others think 'cleaned' so they avoided it. To be honest, I was pretty sure it was but liked the detail. I love these older reverses.. something about them feels warmer than the later dates, especially the 60's upward which I don't really like at all. Not too much creativity going on there. I think it's about time they came up with a new edition for the reverses. Maybe hold a competition.
@Paulz - yeah I think you're right about ICCS
@moxking - thanks, I'm pretty happy with it.
@TaeKenDo - you did good...hahaha

Well, gee, if this piece can grade ICKS "problem-free" (no cleaning noted)...: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-50-C...132025498423Quote: ...it's got terrible eye appeal... I know the Canadian silver, for whatever reason (alloy, etc.), tends to tone nicely - esp. the .800 George V pieces - but geez, that's way harsh. There are MUCH worse looking/blotchier "tarnished" coins out there. Add to that a minimum of surface digs/hits/ solid rims... and a well-struck crown band (which I think is bumping the piece more of an AU look, rather than the XF+ is probably is overall)... Maybe not THE choicest eye-appeal, but certainly looks better than the piece I linked above. Anyway, concerning that tone - it does look kind of odd, particularly the portrait side, where has sort of that "sitting on top" look, plus those always curious dead spots with little tone (perhaps where retoning "missed"). The reverse looks more natural, though, with more of a normal circ cameo look, so...? Looking in hand would be more telling, I'd think. Does the piece have any hint of natural luster remaining on the obverse? With that much meat left to it, even with deep tone, I'd think there should be some remaining luster there if this wasn't stripped and repainted (and not just on the protected areas of the reverse).

I can't see luster on the Obv. through the highly reflective rainbow cartwheel effect of it's shininess under the color...so I guess not. But what I do see on the Obv. is what appears to be an old dark toning that should still be dark but is faded & colored over. This is just my wild interpretation of what I'm seeing. The Rev looks much more natural than the Obv. though.
Another thing that might be somewhat significant is the ridges of the coin which are all perfectly clean. No build-up or residue whatsoever & just a hint of colored toning.

That's scary about the 1918... I wouldn't be able to tell and might actually bid on one of these if the seller is not listed from China. Yikes !! :(

TaeKenDo - Agree AU-50 at least, with beautiful natural toning. A super example.

AU50 all the way and i'd like to add that I find the toning attractive. I would add this coin to my collection any day.

Comments on authentic coin: Toning a little unstable. This coin after a long time, will patinate to an even, overall gray color.
Beautiful toning, just like most other beautiful things, reverts to showing age after many years. Beauty has always been in the eye of the beholder.
Some say (besides me), that the decision to buy should be based on grade alone.

Nice AU50 TaeKenDo. Definitely a candidate for ICCS submission.

Thanks for all the opinions coming from you eagle-eyes. Very likely will be sent to ICCS but I like the color & details so she's a keeper for now.

I wouldn't send it in .. you know what you have and, if you like it, holder it yourself. I'd say 45-50. The cost to certify it (if they will) is a large percentage of what the coin is worth or could be sold for.
