You need to take it out of the holder for any type of accuracy.

Please post all the coins you are sending to have graded. For this date anything below MS64 is not worth paying to have graded by a TPG. IMHO |

 that better pictures are needed, but my gut says AU-53 based on the photos available. If so, then I personally don't think it's worth being graded, but still a nice coin to have! |

the pics are pretty bad to grade from but I have it mid-AU. my first thought was 53 but it looks like there might be enough to go 55. 1881 is known for an above average strike and the eagle breast is almost flat. thats what led me to the AU53 grade. there also appears to be a chunk taken out of the left leg of the eagle. this would probably not be enough to pull a details designation as it is not in as critical area.

Thank you. I didn't know that about the specific year. I also didn't take that chunk out of the leg into consideration. It's safe to say I won't be sending this in for grading. |

Judging mostly from the reverse, I'd say AU-53 tops.
