It's not their fault, they just happen to be the poor schmucks that have to deal with an idiot like that.

I used to think stunts like this were funny, but not so much anymore. It might feel different if those responsible were the ones who had to count/handle these coins.

Always think this "protest" is just dumb......not even remotely original.

Quote:Mr Stafford says the DMV had to accept his unusual form of payment because the US coinage Act of 1965 says that coins are "legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes and dues". As BStrauss said they didn't actually have to accept them. But if they did they could have also told him "Yes sir we will accept them. Rolled and with your name, tax bill number, and your phone number printed on each roll. No sir you may not use our counting machine."

I'm of the opinion this is a gross violation of common decency ... and the protesting person is in some way violating the common rules of decency that we all ascribe to in a modern society.
Boo on him ... that was unjustified and not appropriate.

This is a good example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
Nothing wrong with entertaining the thought but what a waste of everyone's time.

I was wondering, did he also have to stay at the office until early Thursday morning? It seems that his bill could not be officially paid until they counted it all and confirmed it was the correct amount. It would be funny if it came up $0.01 short and he didn't have any change on him. What a waste of time and effort to harrass employees who had nothing to do with your beef.

Couldn't happen in Canada.
Limitation
(2) A payment in coins referred to in subsection (1) is a legal tender for no more than the following amounts for the following denominations of coins:
(a) forty dollars if the denomination is two dollars or greater but does not exceed ten dollars;
(b) twenty-five dollars if the denomination is one dollar;
(c) ten dollars if the denomination is ten cents or greater but less than one dollar;
(d) five dollars if the denomination is five cents; and
(e) twenty-five cents if the denomination is one cent.
The UK and other countries also have limits on coin as legal tender. Odd that The US repealed such laws.

Nothing wrong with entertaining the thought but what a waste of everyone's time. I agree. To expand on what I said earlier, this "protest" might make more sense if these wheelbarrows made it up the line to pay lawmakers' salaries.

Doesn't waste the employees time, he gets to waste his own time. And if he wants to sit there and count them that's OK too, but the office is closing at the normal time and if he isn't done he can come back again when the office reopens and continue counting.

 Those DMV employees had NOTHING to do with why he was upset, so I really don't know why they had to get punished by working past midnight. Personally, I would have made him responsible for paying those employees' overtime.

Doesn't punish anyone except some employees who most likely had nothing to do with whatever is being protested.
This is democracy by idiocy. If he doesn't agree with the tax, he should get enough people who are on his side to either have the tax laws changed, or have the elected officials changed. Instead, by doing this, he just looks like another petulant whiner who's out the time he spent in pulling this stunt, and still ended up paying the tax anyway, and likely will pay it in the future as well.
