That's my take on this..

OK ..SPP ..you've just changed "my take on this"..

You can see why I'm not an error expert...

I hope that you do get to see this one "in hand"..

I've seen some interesting arguments posted here, but I'm still with the PMD crowd.

I am still heavily in the Post Mint Damage corner, almost 100% sure. In my opinion, the coin in question doesn't look like SPP's examples. SPP's examples are clearly errors.

It's pretty well circulated for such a spectacular error. If legit, you would think it would have been pulled out of circulation sooner.

This says it all for me.

I pressed a 2005 cent at my office today as I forgot to bring a few 1960's pennies.
Here is the result...

The edge could easily be spooned to give it a die cap appearance.
Lets keep in mind that this is a different metal composition from the original posted image therefore a slightly different look.
Take a close look.

Well, that answers my question. I never would have thought there would be enough metal at the rim to make the "flange" part so wide. What does it look like in an edge view?

With the coin in hand, it is absolutely a man-made error, thanks to the op for sending it to me, and thanks to Darryl for sending me some more home made goodies - I picked up the envelope today, and I cannot wait to open it!!
