with John. I really can't tell if that's a die crack or a big long scratch.

Here are some close up pics of the quarter. It does not feel raised. It does not go through the rim, although it appears to me as if one of the marks on the rim meets the line. Is there a place I can take it to or send it in to have it authenticated if it is a die crack? I live in Evanston Wyoming, Salt Lake City Utah is accessible.

Die cracks are raised on the coin, but that does look like scratch. PMD

PMD, it's incuse. You can see where it damaged the rim.

A die crack shouldn't damage the rim because the rim is formed by the collar, which is essentially a third die. It just looks like a scratch started in the center of the coin dragged out beyond the rim. You can replicate this with a nail and cent if you'd like a better idea of how it happened.

But, this is more like a seam, not a crack. It is raised but, not like two sides of a scratch. Only one edge like a seam. Just so you know, I tried to replicate it with a nail and did not come close. It was difficult to keep the nail that straight. It also produced a definite crack, two edges, where I could get it deep enough to show. It failed to produce a seam, like the quarter has. Is there a place to send it in just to have it looked at by someone. I understand it must be difficult to make a positive conclusion without having a coin in front of you. No disrespect intended.

A scratch on the coin, think like this. Take your finger and draw a straight line in sand. See how it looks like a ditch, deep in the middle with raised sides. A die crack would not have a deep middle. Hope that helps a little.

If you scratch a coin at an angle, it will produce a vertical displacement of metal that appears to be a crack. A nail would most likely not be sharp enough to make a thin gouge like that, you would need to use a knife. I have no doubt at all that your coin has been damaged.

A box knife could make that mark. But when you look deeper into the line is makes, you can see a squared cut and metal striation lines.
