We pay what they are worth to us. If you are happy with the coin, it was money well spent.

Oh man, I've never seen a War Nickel in MS66 condition before, that's awesome. As John pointed out NumisMedia lists the value at $31.25, so you did not overpay. To me, the die cracks makes the coin more desirable. I would pay $30 in a heartbeat for this nice coin.

What exactly makes die cracks desirable?

Wikipedia:

Quote:
A die crack occurs when a die, after being subjected to immense pressure during the minting process, cracks, causing a small gap in the die. If this damaged die cointinues [sic] to produce coins, the metal will fill into the crack, thus revealing a raised line of metal in the finished coin. Specimens with more prominent die cracks can command a high premium and are valued greatly by some collectors.

I had to laugh at the way they spelled continues (cointinues), lol. I bet it was intentional.

Coins with die cracks are not real common and are considered errors. Some collectors like this type of stuff.

Beautiful coin! Somewhat curious that NGC would not note the die cracks with it's grading, but I agree they add to it's appeal.

Beautiful coin, fair enough price - heck, the slab cost that much alone.

Die cracks would be an error designation and an extra fee

No extra fee if not designated on the holder? Not sure.
