Thanks for the input rockfish.

Your last sentence is a good point.

A good deal of my enjoyment in the hobby is being able to find a great deal at auctions - and yes, if I can pick up numismatic items at spot or a bit above so much the better. Only thing though is that methodology is not likely to get me a higher grade piece from the early 1900's.

A lot of my focus is not paying more than spot for silver or gold so coming around to paying hundreds (let alone thousands) for a single coin is something I really need to think about.

Thanks for the inspiration.

I'll be going through these and others today. Not expecting too much as I recall going through them already - but I didn't have the Charlton Guide at the time either so we shall see.

Aghawk or anyone, in the Variety section of this forum I was hoping you might have some 1943 50c to share? No particular reason I chose 1943, just seemed a good starting point.

Not a problem, just whenever you have time.

That's my style too.

Yes it looks like a near 3 from that picture. Both the near and far varieties are easy to find.

Finally got around to shooting a few of the 50 cents pieces from my collection. Still trying to figure out if there is anything special here but I don't think so.

The closer I look at these coins - especially after photographing - the more I see in terms of defects .

Perhaps I am being too critical - I am not under the illusion that I have any MS 64 + coins in my collection.

Comments as always are welcome.

To me what's special about them is the gorgeous Kruger Gray reverses. Beautifully stylized coat of arms that really lost something after '58 when they switched to the much more beaurocratic looking Thomas Shingles reverse (though I do love his victory nickel).
Anyway, lovely coins Ag.

Nice coins Aghawk; the 1941 looks to be a wide date and the 1943 looks to be a narrow date. The 1952 also looks to be a narrow date...
I cannot pick anything else out. Agree with Rockfish that the Reverse is unique and beautiful,
