Very imformative thread guys I take two things from this. Be VERY careful on ebay.... and CYA when being a good citizen. Remember the saying - No good deed goes unpunished - Any coin over $50 from ebay and I am gonna post a link on here for authentication lol

Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #285 Sorry, could not resist... But I agree with nobble, this day one has to be a little self-centered when offering assistance. Many criminals these days are successfully suing their victims just because they dared to fight back!

Notice the high reserve for seller's "legit" graded coins.

WHEW! Glad I found this forum....now I know how to keep myself out of court! JK......but thanks for all the good info on coin authenticating. Speaking of which, you guys have grading company preferences?

Well to "buy" or for my own coins? I like to buy PCGS graded coins..they seem to be on top right now with NGC a close second. If I can get a nice value on a PCGS coin in "the old slab" it will generally grade 1 higher with PCGS as they were much more conservative then. I also like sending coins to PCGS unless they have problems (cleaned, rim damage, etc.) then I will send them to ICG. They will grade problem coins and have a decent reputation.

Wow, they just posted their third 1909-S VDB. Last two buyers seem happy enough.

fasteddie, I meant for buying coins. I don't have enough to sell....they're like my children! lol Also, I have a complete set of Mercury dimes, minus the 1916 D, and 1942/1, can you guys give me some pointers on spotting fakes, or should I post that question in another thread? Thanks for all the help!

My opinion only High Value Coins should always be either PCGS, NGC and possibly ANACS ONLY! and unfortunately they can also be counterfeit! quote: give me some pointers on spotting fakes
I highly recommend reading Scott Travers book "The Coin Collector's Survival Manuel
