We would rub penny's with mercury all the time back when I was a kid, made the penny nice and shiny. I don't remember where we got the mercury, but that was back before seat belts and bottled water when we lived life on the edge.

Does it really matter what it is plated with? It is post strike damage and the coin is worth 1 cent.

It's plated with something and worth 1 cent. Keep it because it's cool or spend it if you don't like it.

I have 1971 same color and it is 3.1 grams and it is worn out bad and not signs of copper anywhere. if it was plated it is thick plating and very strong plating. I don't want to snip the edge and ruin it.

No, nickel planchets have a larger diameter than a cent and even if the nickel stock was punched out for cent-sized planchest, the weight would be high because nickel stock is thicker than cent stock.

Or the cent was already worn when they plated it.
