It is a Wheat cent so keep it, but what you are seeing is merely PMD.

Yes, some sort of damage but since it is a Wheat cent I would keep it or drop it somewhere for perhaps a child or metal dectector to find.

On your coin,the digit is still there. Your coin suffers from a different issue, maybe a Grease Filled Die or just wear.

The first coin shows what numismatists usually call PMD or post-Mint damage. Agree that the second coin was most likely struck from a die that had the last digit filled in with metal shavings/die grease, a normal occurrence in the production of high-volume mintages such as the 1941 Lincoln cents (887 million struck).

This is counter damage and a common area for damage to occur.
