In a jeweler's loupe you never need anything more than a 14x. You should own a 10x,12x and a 14x loupe. The best are Hastings Triplet but a doublet will do fine. John1

Good information. I'd like to get a jeweler's loupe as well.

All depends what you're looking for. The TPG graders use naked eye and a 3x if they want to see something closer. More than that and you're looking for variety attributes.

Thanks guys before I wrote the topic I put down a bid for a x40 loupe so if I don't win the bid I will look for x3 10 15 20 30 buy one every month and see how they work out, I wanna see as much detail on the coin even a x 500 sounds good

Any loupe above a 14x will give you a distorted view. Get a 10x,12x and a 14x Hastings Triplet. A doublet will also do well and is less expensive. John1

I have several different ones. However, I never use most of them. I figure if I need anything more than about 5X, I don't need that coin that much.

B&L are very good. Hastings triplet is very good. 10&12&14x is good.$35 is a bit high but not bad. John1

I ended up ordering the BelOMO 10X on Amazon. I'll try it out and report back on my overall impression of this product.

10x is the best for almost all purposes. That's what the TPGraders use.

Quote: 10x is the best for almost all purposes. I agree. I do not need to see anything beyond that, although the serious variety and error collectors are free to disagree.

I have a couple. One is lighted the other isn't, both are 10X. I rarely use the one that's lighted as it tends to wash out the details.

I have a lighted 2x/5x but I seldom use the light. I find that using external lighting is still preferable. I do like the 2x part for full-coin viewing though.

I'm happy with the BelOMO 10X. It's hinge is tight which keeps the lens from swinging out. The optics are clear and lack distortion. I also prefer an external light source. Overall, I would rate the BelOMO above average for it's price.
