That is what I was thinking. A low relief Mercury dime would not be pretty.

The coolest thing about finding a merc is that you immediately know that it's silver and at least 72 years old. Clad mercs would ruin that, and would not be worthwhile, as they would not be pretty in low relief.

I must be the only one who likes the spaghetti hair. I don't like the ATB Quarters because the lack of spaghetti hair and because of the low relief. I can see those wearing out easily.

FDR is one of the greatest president that pull our nation together during times of many crisis. I'd rather have his image on the Quarter since Washington is already on the dollar bill. Than we can have the dime open for other design.

We had presidents and first spouses, how about first pets on the dimes? Especially Jackson's foul-mouthed parrot?

no one has mentioned that the FDR was the Founder of the March of Dimes

since being handicapped and the longest serving President after a long war and dying in office

it was a match made in heaven to be on the dime as the founder of the March of Dimes

people don't hear of the March of Dimes much since polio is basically gone and other diseases and now effort is placed on birth defects. I guess FDR did his job with the March of Dimes too

this would be a tough uphill battle to get FDR off the dime

When I visited the Philadelphia Mint recently they had designs of pets on quarters, probably created by some of the kids.

There is no doubt that the presidents that currently reside on our coins have made significant contributions/impacts to The United States. There are also presidents and other people who have done so as well. Why not honor those individuals? Haven't the current commemorations lasted long enough? Isn't it time to modernize? I would love to see some rendition of Lady Liberty and maybe some animals.

Negative. The one dollar bill needs to go away!

Uh, we just had an entire series of dollar coins to do just that.

And a great example is the latest Gold one the Mint recently released. Really not to great.

The dime design is way overdue for a change. Nothing against Roosevelt or any other president, but we should go back to representations of liberty on all coins, not just dimes. New designs would be best. Don't reuse old designs. But I'm not holding my breath. The coin might go away before the design changes.

I agree. If they change, a return to Liberty is preferred, with fresh designs, of course.

And that one was better than a clad one would be. Gold is softer and takes an impression better, and the press that made the gold ones doesn't run at anywhere near the speed the presses that make coins for circulation run. So the the relief on a clad Mercury would have to be even lower.
