In the second page of this thread QldSandy refers to a; Quote:

I think the "Fat 50" is when the Reverse of the 2001 Federation 50¢ had some pretty severe doubling, making the 50 appear fat.
Pretty severe doubling of the legend in particular on the Obverse can also be found.

Also look for the VERY RARE 2000 $1/10c mule coin. Very low mintage.

My2cents, Below are 2 images for you to compare. Some of the "Fat 50's" show much clearer (as in defined) doubling than this one, and they seem to be reasonably plentiful from my searching. Cheers.   |

Thanks for the pics sandy, I just looked through a bunch of federation 50's but no luck in finding a fat one yet. Great to know of another error/variety though, who knows how many I've passed on without checking for them...

The Fat 5's do get a lot "fatter" than that. To the point that there is no separation at all on the right side of the 5. Just one big blob. The doubling also extends over much of the rest of the coin, particularly up the left side.
Its been a couple of years since I did a search (cataracts are bad things for coin collectors), but they were really easy to find at the time. Well over a quarter of coins had doubling, and Fat 5's were well represented. Perhaps they've all been stashed away in recent years?

The first coin is Broadstruck This is a coin which is struck out of the collar and has spread, however the definition as recognised by the ANA and graders such as NGC is that the coin detail must be visible. As soon as you lose detail off the edge, the coin is now defined as "Off Centre" not broadstruck. PS if anyone has $1 or $2 errors for sale let me know. I'd like a $1 tilted collar, double strike, off centre or double sided mule. My $1 set is already quite complete of error types including the proof mule and the 10c mule
As for $2 I need anything except Broadstruck and blank, thats as much as I have so far

I have just 1 x $1 tilted collar and also 2 x $2 coins, both with a die crack on the rev, (1.rim to elder's head) (2. crack through grass tree to rim, I think), but they're my babies and not for sale.  Sorry!   life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

RE the 2005 50¢ remembrance coin, look for a Cud on the Soldiers helmet & left elbow, and on the front of the neck of the lady 2nd from right. There are also some that have extra metal in parts of the rev legend. life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved
