You can get high grade ones (read: AU/BU) in the late 30s and 40s for $3-$4, including shipping if you look hard enough on ebay. I would suggest getting those.

I collect Mercury dimes by date and mint , have 3 nice circulated sets minus the 16-D & 21's .
I am not a silver stacker , nor do I want to be one .
Numismatic Classic collector is what I live for .

You need to talk to justcarl.

I sold my complete set (minus 4 coins) for melt value. Shows how much I care.

I do have a nice example for my type set. That's all I need.

I also stack silver

What does it mean to stack silver? That's a new term for me.

There is a guy at my monthly coin show that sells Mercs for $1.25-$1.30 a piece. I pick out the non-damaged, evenly worn ones. I've only been buying these from him recently as it's the best deal I have found for these. He also has Barber dimes for $2 a piece around the same grade, but does not have them as often.

I believe silver stacking is buying coins for their silver content, not so much rarity or condition. If you bought 20 Mercury dimes from 1944 that are F condition, and do so every so often, I believe that would be silver stacking.

I get them for melt value at my LCS. I don't necessarily collect them, but every week I buy and sell and am able to keep a few dimes, quarters, etc. to build up my little silver stash. Depends on area, but ebay does have some ok deals if you buy in bulk and are patient.

Stacking is just buying coins or silver and holding onto it for long term some people think silver will make a big jump in price on of these days

Well, some coin shops allow you to pick Mercs out of a bin.

Got a 25-S for melt a couple days ago.

fair1969!

I have a set but it is very low grade.
Most came from silver junk bins along the years and I bought a couple of low grade semi keys off ebay.
The 1916D was the first slabbed coin I ever bought. An AG-3 and I broke it out of the plastic for my album.
That was the first album I ever completed. I was so excited!

Fast forward to today....I am getting ready to take the coins out of the album and pass along the 1916D
to a new owner so they can complete their set.

My last batch of purchase had 4 1926-S in VG to near Fine, plus others from G to EF. Average to be around VF that breaks down to $1.37 each.
