Apparently, none of you noticed the "rare mint error" that caused the value to skyrocket...
It is a 1974 dollar released in 1972.

Can someone tell me why people keep taking pictures of coins in their hands? Is it a deliberate attempt to avoid showing potentially unflattering details?
It is easier to just place the coin on a flat surface and take the picture with your smart phone. Just get a book or a block and place the phone with the aperture over the edge. Use up to 4x magnification, and the coin will fill over half of the screen.

Hey, look at this cool dollar coin I found in our Dad's drawer after he left us. Oh, Joe, that could be worth a lot of money, like $50. You should sell it, like on ebay. We will split the money. Well, we don't have an ebay account, but I could start one and sell this coin. Attempt 1 - no sale Joe, just ignore those other ebay members that are saying it is not a "NGC MS-64" (whatever that is). List it again.Attempt 2 - no sale Joe, just ignore those other ebay members that are saying it is not a mint error. List it again. Attempt 3 - no sale Joe, just ignore those other ebay members that are saying it is not rare and not a 1972-D.
