I agree. The jeffies are cool to collect because almost anyone can do it. I think the key is to not save everything. A lot of people save their Jeffies because it's a 1953 (fifty years old!!), but in reality it's really only worth face value (or melt value if you listen to the people who talk about the value of nickel and copper....)

Nickels get beat up easily. I'd really recommend new collectors to get a really nice set of Jeffersons while they are really super affordable. Avoid the "incomplete" sets on e-bay - you're just buying common nickels at inflated prices. Any nickel worth anything has been pulled from these sets.

Well Like I said I'd planned on doing the bule whitman folders but picked up the 8113 cheaper. It was used and the previous owner wrote in on some of the pages. I have to say I think it's the thrill of the hunt. I'm findng around 3 a day that I don't have for now at buying $6 worth a day. I get them from work as change to give back. Keep a list in my pocket of dates after 1964. Then save anything before 1964 till I get it home.

Just yesterday I ordered a Harris folder for the same purpose. Since its circulated jeffs I didn't want to spend extra for an album. I'm also working on a UNC Jefferson set.

well only 45 more to go lol to be up to date not counting the proofs. I seem to be lucky and find about 4-6 a week I need but I see that slowing as I mainly need 40's and 50's now. But hunting is half the fun

Man, where is my luck? Even though I've only been trying to put a Jefferson nickle set together for about a month now I've searched through a little more than 2000 nickles

And I have holes everywhere. I found no silvers, no keys. Infact the only thing I found in the 40's was one horribly shaped 1947 and a 1941 (which are plentyful). If the 1964 was valuable then I would be a millionare. I am still missing a 1982 P and a Keelboat P. Other than those two 1970-present are all acounted for. I have maybe 12 representative nickles from below 1970. And these were all unsearched nickles from change hoards from many friends and family members. And searching through masses of Kennedy half dollars for silver is one thing, but searching through nickles are another. I'm going to drive myself blind and insane.

I think I'm going to just take it easy, be patient, search a little at a time here and there, and just buy up whenever I can or else this set is going to frusterate me until I loose interest.

So little time? Whats the hurry :) I have like 60 more years of collecting to go :)

Well....60 years from now I'd be 99 years old !!......

And for me.....guess I just meant that I have WAYYYYY too many albums in need of my attention, and in need of completion efforts, first before I should go pouncing off starting yet ANOTHER album that I'll be confounded at not finishing !!...(I have not tasted the satisfaction of a completed one yet)....

My UNC Jeffersons are in an Intercept Shield album but its only upto 2002. I don't know why I didn't pay attention before. As it happens the rest of the years 2003-present are on a 2nd book that I need to purchase($23). So I guess I can't add pages to Intercept albums. I'm thinking whether I should switch all the Jeffs to a Dansco Album which I can just add pages as I go and don't need to work on 2 seperate books.

With my Dansco albums, the Lincoln goes to 1999, the Jefferson to 2001, and the Roosevelt to 2004. I have a generic Dansco binder with blank cent, nickel, and dime pages for my ultra-moderns. It holds the 2000+ LHC, 2002+ Jeffersons, and 2005+ Roosevelts.

Once I filled the specific albums, I would have had to upgrade the binder size to add pages. I love knowing those albums are now complete, so I opted to start one new album for all three denominations, which would have included all four if the SHQ had not intervened!

When I bought the album in 1986, it had four pages. I added a page to it around 1994. A sixth page will not fit in that binder. I would have to replace it, moving the pages to either a six, seven, or eight page binder.

So yes, you can add pages to a Dansco album, but there is only so much room for expansion

Was a good day added 6 more from only 7 rolls. I may break down and buy the silvers tomorrow as I have only found 3 since I have been searching rolls and I don't have the other 2 lol. 39 more minus the proof and I'm done.

Lol...your post inspired me to start my own circ jefferson set. I'd thought about doing it so many times, but after seeing this thread, I went to the bank picked up a box. Not a bad start...found a 38D in VF, 1 silver, a couple in the 40s, a handful in the 50's and I've already completed from 60 up to present (well, I need a 08P, but I'll get that in time). Now I gotta find a used Dansco to house all of these. LOL. Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm gonna try to hold on and see if I can complete a set strictly from circ...lol. Might end up taking me quite a while...either that or a whole lot of roll-hunting...lol
