I want tio thank everyone for their helpful advice and encouragement. I just finished sorting a small container by date and mint mark. I wanted to get some idea what was in the containers. Grand total for is 1241, On just a quick scan of the coins I found the following. 1943- Farthing 1902-Indian Head 2 lamination errors 12 RPMs 1 possible DDR. After I take photos of the error coins, I plan on posting them and several of the RPMs on the error portion of the forum. Not bad for a quick scan!

For those interested my first two bags had some nice coins. A few lamination errors and a fair number of RPM. The third bag yielded the following:So far! Indian head cent-27 LWC 1909-1 LWC 1909 vdb-5 LWC semi-key dates 1910S-1 1911S-2 1912S-1 1913S-3 1914S-1 1915S-1 I'll post pics of the other coins latter. Any idea of approximate grade for these? Thank you for looking.

Thanks ammcollect. These coins allowed me to fill 6 holes in my collection. Now I only need 5 more ( the most difficult and expensive ones to buy) to complete my Lincoln set.

That's a very awesome gift! I don't know your relatives health situation but I'd suggest trying to take them out to dinner, a movie, or something else they enjoy to show appreciation. They must think a lot of you to hand over such a prized collection!

You could always search through them, then roll them with one Indian Head penny sticking out on the end of each roll and sell them on ebay as "unsearched". You could make money for years to come. :) Just kidding... obviously don't do that. Bad joke. I recently went through (am still going through) a large collection that contained about 1000 wheat pennies and did it much in the same manner you propose. Separating by decade first and then going back and searching for the key dates from each decade. The problem I had was that the wheat pennies were also mixed in with memorial cents, Indian heads, quarters, halves, nickels and dimes in large bags. It was a 60+ year collection that was mostly just tossed together spanning from 1798-2009 of US coinage tossed into the same bags. Was very exciting, and at times mentally draining. I was constantly afraid that I would miss something major and lose out on a big find. I spent a few hours each night a few times a week sorting by denomination, then by style, and then would pick one and go through all the coins at the same time. It was a large undertaking but once I got to just the wheat pennies I had found a rhythm and it seemed to get easier.
