Congratulations, Conder!

In my personal quest for rare counterstamps, I've learned to never say, "I'll never own one." Just last month, I acquired such a piece from the UK. It's been on my radar for over twenty years! Happy hunting for the last two coppers needed!

Brings me down to needing just two Sheldon numbered varieties from 1795 to 1814, 1796 S-96 and 1801 S-217.

Awesome!

How long has it taken you to build that collection?

I joined EAC in 1982, I started actually collecting early copper in 1985 intending to just put together a date set of the draped busts. Then another collector who is getting out offered me a small bulk lot of 30 different varieties. So it's been about 33 years now. I think this purchase brings me up to I about 260 varieties, 255 Sheldon numbered varieties, and five NC's. There are 295 Sheldon numbered varieties and new purchases are becoming few and far between. My goal for the last four years or so has been to simply try to add one new variety each year.

Dang I should have placed a bid on lot 491, hammered at $200 less than half of what I thought it would go for. Doh!

Where are you guys seeing lot numbers? These are the coins be offered on ebay, correct? I don't see any lot numbers on any of the listings. Or is this auction happening off ebay on another site?

I bid on a lot of the lots, but I can't find prices realized. How did you tell what lot number 491 went for?

Thanks!

My friend who was there and who submitted my bid for me said that a LOT of the material was going for ridiculously low prices. I haven't been able to get onto the EAC website members section lately, that would be where the prices realized will be posted but it is possibly a little soon for them to be up yet.

No these are the coins sold Saturday night in Traverse City MI at the annual EAC sale. The lot numbers are from the Catalog that was shipped to the members.

Does anyone know what lot 58 (the 1805 C3 Half Cent) went for? I'm not on facebook and the prices aren't up on the website yet.

Mike, it is confusing...some posters are referring to a dealer's website of coins for sale and some others are referring to the recent private EAC catalog sale lot numbers which we can't access unless we are already EAC members.

I'd like to learn from posters what they thought about the coins in the EAC sale in general. Any good values? Bids way too high? Any lots that were a big surprise? etc...

The auction was fast paced as always; one of the major consignors stated prices were up and down for him- some above and some below expectations. EAC members are probably the more critical and discriminating buyers of early copper in my opinion, so many slabbed "commercially graded" pieces can go pretty low if there are issues with surface, etc. If you are interested in any particular pieces I would be happy to report them here.

The Convention location was outstanding although rather remote which appeared to effect attendance from what is normally expected. The auction was well attended though, and the breadth and number of member displays exhibited top notch- all in all a great experience.
