Max ebay fees are only $250. Otherwise, I would be surprised as well!

I wonder if the buyer will crack it out

With this coin I would keep it just the way it is .
But justcarl will probably break it out to put into his many Mercury albums .

I am starting to call these "clickbait" coins because they exist only to get people to click on the listing and therefore serve as a sort of advertisement for the seller's store or listings. Notwithstanding, this one does a great job at just that. It's near the "top pop", CAC beaned, and toned, a winning combination, but I am not sure it's worth another $20 more than the similarly-gorgeous PCGS MS66FB currently listed for "only" $78k.

I think Paypal has the 24 months no interest promotion.

So about $4,086 per month.

Looking at other 16-Ds on ebay, I found a few in 66FB that are in the high 70s. The coin originally posted is really nice, but I'm not sure if that plus at the end of the grade justifies spending $20k more than what I would have to spend to get a 66FB

There must be a safe protocol for paying and taking delivery of a valuable item like this, and if so what is it?

Seller sends coin first, then I send payment.

I don't care for the coloring of the tarnish (oops - toning) on the REV so I think I will pass this time.

For that, I'd be willing to take a road trip. If USPS, Registered Mail would be the choice.

Need? No.

Want? Yes.

The seller is Pinnacle Rarities, a first class act if there ever was one. The coin is available on their site for $92k.
If you like thick skinned, not messed with original coins it's a nice one.
PCGS with a green bean, it's at the top of the food chain. With a population of 3 in MS-66+ and only 8 higher in MS-67 (I don't know how many of those are beaned), they trade so infrequently it's hard to determine a true value.

3 of the 67s have a CAC sticker, but cannot say for sure that none of the 67s are duplicates as coinfacts only has a picture of one of them.

Exactly what I did with several of mine. The one in my set #1 was a PCGS something or other but took it out so long ago, forgot what is was. MS something or other but mostly I liked it for the FSB.

Those were no problem with FSB's for me. It's the 18S with FSB that I just can't find. Only one left to make a complete set with all FSB.
