yes, I've read those and the ones put out by PCGS including the pictures. It isn't as cut and dried as you're implying though. The difference between AU58 and MS63 can be slight. I've seen AU55s look more impressive than some MS63s.

Look at my thread on 1913 Buffalo nickel "guess the grade". The people here were saying MS64-MS66. It was an AU55. So they need to brush up too, apparently.

Grading Buffalo nickels from photos is definitely harder than some other series. I could definitely use some practice grading them.

Definitely. It's hard to tell from pictures, as in person you can see the luster and wear much easier. From photos, it's easy to confuse weak strike and wear.

Ken , I think you have a really sharp looking Buffalo here . I'll venture out and say MS-64 .

Strong strike, very few marks, and no wear I can see. Hard to judge luster on nickels but this one seems to have enough to justify an MS-64 grade. Wouldn't be shocked to see MS-65 on the slab.
