It's slabbed. Guess the grade? I have another thread about a different somewhat muted 1928S, I think this one is better, you tell me? I can't access those pics right now to upload them onto this thread.

I think it's a pretty good nickel! Can you give reasons for why you think it's what you guesstimate it as?
The pelt on the head and upper shoulders is unmatted down and goes down as far as I've seen it go on perfect examples. The hair has the requisite crisp gouges in it at the bottom and lesser gouges nearer the top. Sometimes it's smoothed down.
The face has a lot of detail that is lost on some. You can see the nostril ridge and the bag under the eye. The hair braid, I've seen ones with more definition.
Admittedly I don't know much about grading. I'd think the definition and the crispness of the strike would count for most of the grade.
I thought it was beautiful.

yes, I've read those and the ones put out by PCGS including the pictures. It isn't as cut and dried as you're implying though. The difference between AU58 and MS63 can be slight. I've seen AU55s look more impressive than some MS63s. Look at my thread on 1913 Buffalo nickel "guess the grade". The people here were saying MS64-MS66. It was an AU55. So they need to brush up too, apparently.

Grading Buffalo nickels from photos is definitely harder than some other series. I could definitely use some practice grading them. Quote: The difference between AU58 and MS63 can be slight. Definitely. It's hard to tell from pictures, as in person you can see the luster and wear much easier. From photos, it's easy to confuse weak strike and wear.

I'm not an expert, that's why I'm interested in this thread and your coin. Did you see my thread? Read it and weep.......I did! http://goccf.com/t/294005

Strong strike, very few marks, and no wear I can see. Hard to judge luster on nickels but this one seems to have enough to justify an MS-64 grade. Wouldn't be shocked to see MS-65 on the slab.
