I would have said it was done with photo shop if it did not have a follow up story to go with it, pure beauty.

If that coin was mind I would send it back to PCGS to try to get it upgraded to MS70. -PP

I'm surprised it made 69. There are two prominent marks under the RT of LIBERTY, under IN, between WE and T, and dings in the E and T. There also appears to be a mark under the date. I don't know enough about the series to comment on the shoulder, but it bears looking. And that's just the obverse.

Would I own it? Um, yeah. The "look" is flawless and the strike is astounding, probably good enough to allow a little leeway in grading.

MS70? Not a chance. I've just been looking at 68's on Heritage that I liked better.

Dave, I didn't notice your marks at first glance, however my eye immediately went to the shoulder. I don't think those little ticks are on the slab. That's a nice MS68 perhaps...not a 69.

Wow! That truly is a beauty! I would like to see the reverse though, as that is what sets it apart from the pennies of today (besides the date, of course).

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought MS-69 was pushing it a bit.

That's a stunning cent, but I don't think it's a 69 either, it has too many marks for what I would consider an 69 coin. Maybe the reverse is flawless so that might explain it?

Beautiful coin! I think the picture is post slabbing looking around the rim.

I've seen that level of detail on 1916's, but not on a 1919. I detect a slight weakness in the strike, I think the die sharpness is hiding it a bit. On the shoulder you can see some planchet scratches. That's the first place I look on the obverse because it's easy to detect. Also, the hair above the ear is missing a little detail and the cheek has an ever so slight flatness. I think the other very fine scratches are due to the slab and off reflections. I'm certain PCGS put a lot of thought and discussion into that coin.
