I searched roughly $150,000 in rolled coin between 2009 and 2014. My first week I was pulling a lot of silver halves including an 1894 Barber. Around 2011 and the rise in silver prices, all heck broke loose and here came the competition. I found over 1,000 silver dimes including Barbers, mercury, Roosevelt and Canadian. Over 1,000 silver half dollars including Walkers, Franklins and of course, Kennedy.

When I stopped in 2014, my find rates were:

Silver dimes, one per 1,400
Silver halves (mostly 40%), one per 1,000
Silver quarters, one per 2,800

Bank orders, road trips and cold calling.
I could search and re-roll $5 dimes in less than 10 seconds.
Not really interested in errors, just stacking.

I've been getting several rolls of quarters a month and saving the nicest specimen of each date. I look for strike, die condition, and minimal wear. I put these in folders for quarters.

I also save out the varieties and as a lark I have a set with the most heavily worn coins I can find.

You must have really good luck. Silver dimes are extremely rare find now-a-days, I think it has to do with everyone buying out boxes and just searching the rims.

Well, that was my dime average over five years. I'm not sure about luck, as I searched more customer-rolled than machine rolled, and they both averaged about the same. Not so much luck, but volume. That's the key. Try and search at least one thousand dollars in dimes per week. "Everyone buying out boxes, and just searching the rims." Interesting. I wonder, who are these "everyone?" Were there all these hobbyists suddenly springing up out of nowhere the last few years? I find that hard to believe, and get rich quick? You'd have to be insane to try and profit off of these lagging silver prices.

Youtube search 'silver coin hunting'.
Folks buy out large amounts of coins, flip them on their edge, and pick out the silver.

10,000 dimes a week is WAY too much volume for me, especially since I work 60 hours a week.

I see there are a couple dozen dime searching vids. I'm assuming these are hobbyists, I like that. Otherwise, there really is no profit driven incentive to hunt for dimes, considering the amount of time involved to find silver.

Time wise, I allotted 10 minutes to pick up $1k or more in dimes on the way home from work.
30 seconds to search and re pack each roll(I can do it in 10), right around two hours or so.
Dump after work, another 15 minutes.

Right around 2 and 1/2 hours per week invested to search $1k, not too awful bad.

Yep, with dimes, it's all about volume.

I find that roll hunting is most fun if you are putting together a modern coin set. It takes some time, but I eventually got a 1959-20XX mostly in BU condition by searching rolls. My favorite was putting together a 1938-1964 Jefferson nickel set by going through boxes. Plus with the Nickels, you will also find silver wartime and Buffalo nickels in your boxes.

Volume, and hitting as many different bank branches as possible are the keys... the more branches you hit, the more likely you are to stumble on someone's dumped hoard...

I can vouch for that, though I've had somewhat better success with rolls than boxes overall, save for a couple of hoards I've found in boxes. Also, you'll run into a "V" nickel every now and again if you're persistent enough.

I put together 3 1946-1964 Roosevelt dime sets from roll hunting. One is complete, the other two missing a couple dates.
