ALL money makes me smile But a favorite, the 1964 Kennedy half dollar. The year I was born and the last year of 90% silver. I currently have about 30 of them.

Native American dollars. I like just about everything about them (except the year/mintmark/motto on the edge).

Just about everything mentioned above gives me a kick, and I (attempt to) collect it all. However, halves of an variety really pique my interest.

I only got into collecting at the end of the last year mainly "just because" I suddenly came to the realization that I could combine my love for history, aesthetic imagery, and semi-precious/precious metals. I just gather what I can find from circulation right now as it's all I can afford, which is largely wheat cents and the very rare silver. Nickels are my favorite, Buffalos being first (as my name suggests) and Liberty a close second, but I have yet to find any. Basically I like to collect any "classic" design I can come across. George V, VI and Young Elizabeth Canadian cents are cool to come across too.

My favorite are Morgan dollars. I started out collecting them and have continued collecting them in higher grades and better quality. I am also interested in Liberty Seated and Capped Bust coinage.

British bronze pennies, from 1860 to 1970, because they were the coins I knew as a kid, they're nice and big, and even ignoring dates like 1933 you can still keep on adding to your collection, with all the Victorian varieties!

My favorite US coin has to be the Morgan dollar - I've been hooked ever since a family friend gave me an 1882-O one back in 1976!

Just Because is why I collect coins that would have been in circulation in North America from 1500 to 1775, at the close of the British Colonial era. These are often not at all what folks think of when talking about "colonials." To be fair I collect to the end of Spanish, French and Dutch colonies in North America too.

Any time I find a pre-1959 coin in my change, it makes me feel good. It's like something special has happened.

That makes no one smile. If anything, seeing it removes all previously existing smiles.

Over the years, I've found myself shifting from one to another, guess I'm just restless!

Started with a passion for LWC's, bought in bulk quantities to fill as many folders as possible, establishing a storage hoard of dates/mm's in storage bins, finally coming to my senses after 33,000+ in buckets and bags all over caused me to ask, "Waddya do with it?!" Then came TJ's( Jefferson nickels) and bags, boxes and bulk of those filling up massive quantities of folders, only to sell at extreme losses or give away as contest prizes...I've gone through a recent Liberty nickel phase...(hope that is about over), find myself slipping into the niche areas of oddball typesets, working on a PO1/Cull 7070 set, a Holed coin type set and most recently, the Encased Cent...NOW THAT's one I can't seem to let go by!!

Among my other collections is one of '60-D nickels by die chips over the various legends and date. I have about 100 different after all these years.

For me ... honestly circulated classic silver commemorative are my 'smile' coins - its an esoteric set with limited interest.

For all of you - find your own way to be freed from any pressure to somehow conform to the 'rules' of collecting - make your own rules and decisions that maximize your personal enjoyment of the hobby.

Just saying.

Barbers. Kinda basic design but still pretty. An old Barber dime will make me smile every time, dirt and all.
