I think ammonia from drugstore is more preferable.

I definitely like the end result more than how they looked before the treatment, especially the 1910-S LWC.

Have you attempted this treatment for Mint State (or Proof) coins with ugly toning?

I don't have spare ms pennies (and proof ofc) at this time. I think they will be problem-free and just become dark brown.
And my opinion about proof coins in this process - they can get a raibow, going to full-brown at the end too.

They look a little better than before the treating (The 10 S came out well) but they all still appear "messed with". They now look like cleaned recolored coppers.

Conder101, I agree, but in case of pink coins it's better anyway.
I worked a bit more with 1907 IHC, now it looks better.
Without magnification it looks like a bomb - real piece of dark chocolate! Great plain field.
One more secret from me, please don't bite me - if acetone can't "eat" green gunk, and it looks not very tough, try vinegar 0.5% for 15-30 minutes.
Coin won't be damaged, even toning stay on it's place, but green gunk will go away.
And if compairing to pink condition - it blows my mind.
My way this time - acetone, vinegar 0.5%, smelling salts

Yep, that's a major improvement in eye appeal for what was a "pink" copper.

It's all about eye appeal. It will still remain a "details" coin but definitely improves the look of the coin.

I bought this medal in very bad condition, with solid corroded dark spots and nasty green areas. It looked much worse than these photo can show!
Used the same method.

At first, I cleaned green and dark spots with the most barbarian methods - acid, toothpaste, eraser. These spots were VERY strong!
After that I had medal pink, shiny, with eraser scratches and put on a string in smelling salts vapour.
After night in vapour it looked like this.

Nice brown color, but green spots turned back!
I prepared 0.5% vinegar solution and put medal in it, and wait till all green spots dissolved. The secret of 0.5% solition is: it don't affect on tarnish, and don't make copper pink! And I should say some more - aceton and toothpicks can't make anything to this type of "green". It will stay a bit.
After that I put it on a string again.
Final result is great. Plain and brown.
All scrathes from eraser disappeared too.

Last autumn someone was asking me if I put proof pennies in smelling salts vapour.
It took 7 months to get worthless proof coins
Here they are.

Same procedure as on 1st page. 15 hours of hanging, but coins stopped changing color on 5th hour.
1961 is very dark, dark brown, close to black brown.
Looks gorgeous and tasty (haha, because it's like dark chocolate?).
I have never seen natural tarnish being so dark, but indeed this coin is extremely attractive!
1976 color is quite common. Almost like usual brown circulated coin, nothing special.
What do you think seeing this?
