I thought about trying to achieve what you have set as a goal , and ended up seeking the O mint morgans ,,I may extend that one day but for now I'm happy just meeting a few goals within the O mints .
I hope you continue to share with us your progress toward your goal !

If you're trying to get every Morgan by year and mint mark in MS (not counting varieties), it will cost you over 200k. It would be very cool to see one.

Look around at different places to buy your coins as well. I know that we have a local antique store that sells a fair amount of Morgan's from $20-100 in higher grades. Since I do not collect them I can not tell you if he has them at the best price but the few I did go do some quick research on did seem below their value. You may also luck out right now for the fact that a lot of people are starting to sell their silver coins off and if someone is overstocked you may grab them for cheap.
Also look at your local coin stores and see if they do bid boards and grab bags, this is another great way to find coins at a bargain price. When I started back into coins a few years ago I was in a store on vacation and was talking to the dealer about this kind of thing and he told me about a 'grab bag' option they had on Morgan's a few years before that. What they did was took an entire set (yes, an entire set) in MS60+ condition and placed them all into a bucket and was selling them off at $20 a piece. It lasted about a day because someone that was smart enough finally came in and bought the entire bucket. Can you imagine getting about 80% of a Morgan collection for $20 a piece in MS60+ condition, that guy can never complain again about paying for a coin the rest of his life.

Your best bet would be to buy the keys now since they will hold and increase in value while the common date coins will always be available and they will still be cheap.

I also started with a mint/date set of Morgans when I first started collecting (the only difference between your goal and mine was I was going to have every date and every mint instead of just every date) and about accomplished the goal when I got the VAM bug and started focusing on 1878 Morgan VAM's and the rest is history

That would be an impressive an admirable goal indeed ! Best of luck in this endeavor if you choose to do it... I don't know your budget, but maybe it'd be best to persue a Mint series with the Morgans as Metalman did. Then you can always expand that into a full complete set in the future...

cabomhn, you can do way better than that link to morganmint. I purchased just about all their raw uncirculated coins to fill the voids needed from mintproducts.com . They are about half the price of morganmint. The rest I look through the auction nets etc. My local dealer is so high its rediculous. But he does have an auction board that I participate in. nlp

its reasonable. I put together a full date set with most MS. 1893 and 1895 are the two years that aren't common.

If I understand your original question, you are trying to collect one of each year Morgan, not trying to get every date and every mintmark. If that is correct, it is certainly an achievable goal if you have the patience and budget for it. I completed a Dansco 7172 album years ago (I have since traded or sold almost all my Morgan and Peace dollars except a full set of the GSA CC dolars). That album is for one Silver Dollar of each date minted from 1878-1935, from the start of the Morgans to the end of the Peace dollar series. The only date you need 2 coins for is 1921 when Morgan and Peace were both minted. I assume those albums are still available. somewhere.

I just purchased that album a few days ago, and have yet to receive it. From the description, it is a "year set" of dollars, including the Morgans, Peace, Ike, and Susan B Anthony. I could do without the Ikes and SBAs, but that wasn't a choice. Thankfully no Sacagawea or Presidents included.

Of course I date myself, but my album only has 4 pages, room for one of each date Morgan and Peace and an opening for an example of each mintmark (CC, O, S, D for Morgan, D and S for the Peace). Back when I filled mine they hadn't yet thought up the Ike or SBA dollars. I still have the empty album stored away somewhere, maybe someday I'll trun my attention back to Morgan dollars

There will always be someone, somewhere with a rediculous story for those that will listen. Ever go to a car show and listen to all the idiots saying "I used to have a car like that but in much better shape". Or you get a new camera and there is always someone that could have purchased the same one for half what you paid for it just a few days ago. Or "I used to have some land in Texas and sold it a few years ago and now they found oil there". Ever hear the phrase the grass is always greener on the other side of the street? There are a million old wives tales also if you just want to believe anything. cabomhn: First try buying as many as you can in the more common dates. Then if you should loose interest in that series, not much lost. Many, many people start things with wrong expectations and loose interest and a lot of money also. This coin collecting thing is a hobby and intended to be fun so do as you feel is right for you.
