Quote: They won't redo the 1958 dollar. They didn't realize at the time that the raven at the top of the totem pole represented death. That is why it is called the death dollar. Native groups were unhappy with the depiction in 1958 and the Mint apologized. I can only guess that today's reaction would be unhinged anger and trial-by-media. They won't redo that coin. why they didn't recall this coin in 1958 like the devil face bills?

They never recalled the devils face bill, just modified or design slightly the hair over the offending curls

The coins are available on the Mint website.
And the "New Renewed 1949-2019 Silver Dollar" in the 5oz format - available for issue price!
Great looking coin. Timeless design.

For March - lower number of coins from RCM plus lower mintage resulting in nearly half sold out within week of public release.

So it arrived today. Pictured with the 1949 original. One of the best designs within the commemorative series of circulating silver dollars.

the 5oz has even lower relief than the original silver dollar, shame on RCM!

I recently received two 40th Anniversary of GML coins from TSC. One of them has this problem: Is this imperfection minor or major?

Is that a strikethrough error?

If so, it's so minor no one really will pay any premium

Quote: If so, it's so minor no one really will pay any premium I understand a premium for some errors on circulating coins but I had assumed that errors on NCLT would be discounted as all are presumed to be at 68+ (SP/PR etc) and as near to perfect as possible. Even toning which can add to eye appeal for a circulating coin is a detraction from NCLT. I had thought that part of the premium you pay for NCLT is the increased scrutiny and a higher rejection rate for errors as part of the quality control before leaving the Mint. It is also why I see items such as NCLT on incorrect planchets as intentional mules... how could they occur or pass QC without some intent. Thoughts/opinions?

There are a few honest NCLT error coins like the Niagara Falls inverted lasered center that I posted a few years ago, the 1976 Olympic map mule, the recent gold mule but with half the mintage a mule, also seen some double struck NCLT. The off planchets and flip over strikes of the National parks coins are obvious RCM vp special orders or rogue employees creations, these NCLT are struck on ultra slow press like 1 or 2 coins a minute, they would not pass the next stage of production. These minor strike thrus and such are just imperfections in my opinion

Just to add at recent GTA shows a dealer found a roll of silver maple leafs unstruck, looks kind of cool but in my opinion has very little added value like maybe double or triple bullion, not hundreds the dealer believe, one crazy fact about these coins is their terrible milk spots all over, no eye appeal
