Hey!! I just saw that the first time I typed it DID work.....Ignorant (well
......pertaining to THAT...LOL).NO MORE. DO back to my initial question as to what are those "D" shaped gouges. I have seen HUNDREDS of coins with them...all about the size of a mint mark but in different sizes. I understand the coin hitting that coin with the marks but NOT...and I repeat it does NOT make sense that they would often be attached as in a "D" ON TOP of ANOTHER one...and sometimes THREE in a row...all attached as if the top of one "D" is attached to the bottom of the next "D" and then (again sometimes) ANOTHER "D" attached to the bottom of the second one. I have been trying to find this answer LITERALLY for MONTHS...LOL...with NO rational explanation.....PLEASE HELP....Thank you
Very......VERY SINCERELY,
Michael

I DO understand that it is (or SEEMS TO BE) *AFTER* damage....I GET IT. and I am not concerned with them having any extra value. My question is HOW do I have HUNDREDS of pennies, nickels, dimes and quart rsALL......ALL OF THEM with the SAME "D" shaped gouges in each of the coins?. WHAT could be doing this to ALL of the different denominations AND SO MANY DIFFERENT YEARS? AND to top it off...SO MANY of the coins have TWO and THREE (I think I have on or two with FOUR) "D" shaped gouges one in too of another IN A ROW and ALL ATTACHED...LOL.....So you say that nothing at the mint "could possibly do this".....Well (no offense meant in ANY way shape or form) but then WHAT could be doing this to SO MANY different coins in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and in SO MANY....SO VERY MANY different YEARS? PLEASE......(lol)...help.

One on TOP of another and then ANOTHER on top of that one. Apologies for all of the grammatical errors.

I didn't see any unusual marks on the coin in your photo. If the thing you're talking about is a small mark close to the center of your picture, that just looks like a normal "ding" to me.

OK, maybe just a litte unusual, since there seems to be an undamaged line across the middle, and it looks the same above and below that line.

I agree that this is just damage. It is likely from the rim of another coin, specifically a reeded one like the dime and quarter.

I agree that what you are seeing is damage from the rim of a reeded coin like a quarter or dime. If you take a quarter and hold it on edge, and line up the reeding with the divots on your coin, they will probably line up quite nicely.

Again, your coin just shows damage. It's not a Mint error. Why do you think it's an error? Just common bag marks and scratches.

Usually incuse marks on coins is 99% of the time is damage to the coin. Just a few instances it is not and is collectable when these events happen.

It's just VERY ode to me because of them being (SEEMING like they are) attached. I appreciate ALL of your brains and knowledge. All I DO know...is that I DON'T know.lol. more pictures hopefully within a couple of days. I'm on the road so I am unable to do it any sooner. Thank you again.

About incuse marks on coins. 99% of the time it is not a collectable, but is damage to the coin. There are a few instances where there could be a struck through various items that was done when the coin was struck.

These are just the tip of the iceberg, but still only make up about 1% of the items posted here through the years. the other 99% are damaged coins. Hope this answers the question?
