Well it makes sense also. Why? It is a DDR and the die scratches are not seep enough to remove the doubled die. The doubled die is deeper into the die. The angle is not an issue either. If the hub started of turned a bit, then snapped into it correct alignment, it would look just like that. Here is another one: It was the hub out of the correct alignment that snapped back into place during the die creation. It alters all the rese of the design, except for the central area of the design.

Quote: John brings up a good point about the way it is arched. This is why I asked about the lower object. If it had been another bar I would have agreed with the arch. With it being gunk I must agree with the DDR. Another nice find for E&V.

Ah ha. I see now that the shadows and gunk were messing with me. Thanks.

Thank you Tunnioc! It's the first time I've found a column bar DDR this old. It's now officially my oldest one in my collection.

Just found this exact same die in a box from the local bank today. Weird coincidence, huh? Definitely not a plating bubble. I don't see any evidence of it being an arc, it's too straight. I agree with DDR. I will list it once I get a chance.

Would love to see this one before someone took a cheese grater to the die.

Awesome find Tanman! What a very strange coincidence. I found it a couple days ago and then you found one today. Once you list it on your website, I won't have to worry about sending it in for attribution.

Found a second die in the same box, also 1990. Ends above the left arm instead of at the left arm. Honestly, this discovery makes me a bit skeptical of both. There are no other similar gouges on this coin. It's either a DDR or a well placed and well shaped die gouge and I'm not sure which is more likely. Might have to do more research on these. I think it might be way too coincidental that two nearly identical DDRs (that are 100% from different dies) exist for the same date especially when bar-on-column DDRs are extremely uncommon on coins before 1996 and both have the same unusual tilt to them. I also think it's weird that on this new example the doubling seems to be on top of the column which, correct me if I'm wrong, is also unusual for these types of DDRs. Rephrase: The doubling on this new example seems to overlap the column, which I have never seen before but I guess it is possible for a DDR to cause this.
