And by the way..... I'm collecting them for fun.......and will put the "proofs" into a nice album someday..... And I continue to put together an uncirculated cheaper album for me and my sisters son and my girlfriends daughter.......only for fun....nobody's ever gonna get rich off of "The Complete Presidential dollar Collection" in the future !.......(well, except for the Home Shopping Network !...  ....  ...) It's fun for kids and they like the "shiny gold colored coins"......it can be education and historical. Not ever gonna be the "showcase" of anyones coin collection......but that's okay !..... Do you think that the US Mint is purposefully trying to make sure that its current coins will not be worth anything in the future?

No, I think they are just concerned about making a nice profit. With collecting being so popular among those are not in it for the money, they are getting the most bang for the buck. As long as people are buying them, the mint will keep selling and profiting from them.

This is exactly what I was talking about, US collectors are not very much interested in this series. I am satisfied with the 2007 P and D set, but I dont think that I will try to collect any more of these coins. |

Either you start out collecting them and follow through with it each and every year with four coins each, or don't bother. But, really, this "future set" will ALWAYS be able to be put together probably.......sooooooo many minted !! It's reletively inexpensive and the "proof" coins will look good in an album........the uncirc's however.....well.......just gives me something to do and an easy thing to "comlete" and "keep up with"......  |

Why is the mint making so many of these coins now? With so many coin collectors thinking that they will not be worth anything in the future, do you think that there is a possibility that there might not be many Mint State saved?

Well said, I like the "all or none " rule. Its either every single date and mint or nothing. With an exception; some coins I would kill to have wether in a set or not.  Edited by EgCollector

There is little to no effort to continue with it. And I know that someone in my family tree 247 years from now will think ....."Wow !.....look at this nice Presidential dollar album ! And hey ! They're all PROOFS too !"... ....... It's not about "investment" or "getting rich" or "expensive rare" or "how much money will this be worth".......just nice sets to hand down generation to generation and be a learning tool for kids while putting it together, is good enough. I collect "Classic" coins with just as much shameless enthusiasm !......I enjoy BOTH Ultra Modern and Classic !......  Edited by eaglefoot

I think that is a good philosophy Eaglefoot. Too many people are worried about value. Instead, we should all focus a little more on the beauty of our coins.

I'm guessing that your Krause reference only refers to the most popular or recent coin series. This only goes further to prove the point that 3CN are not very popular with newer coin collectors and as such are also less expensive to collect based on their mintages and surviving numbers. From your words the Three Cent coins (3CS)were minted from 1851-1889 and my Krause is 1900-present 2006 33rd edition. This explains why I cant find it in my catalogue, Thanks for the info Prethen |

I'd say to start with Jefferson nickels. You can complete the whole set that way without spending too much money. Edited by symphonic5

I forgot to mention, for albums I use intercept shield. They are a little pricey, but look great!
