Found it on ebay, I play around with a lot of search keywords looking for stuff like that... every once in a while it pays off :) I actually wasn't aware of the 96W until now (it's not a series I focus on), so I was surprised to see them. Bman I'll PM you when I figure out what I'm doing. I was able to upgrade about a dozen coins out of my early Roosie folder, and fill two of the five holes I had remaining. Happy happy.

I probably overpaid, but I paid 19.99 for a 96W roosevelt. Since I was working on a set, I finally realized that the 96W was just lurking there and that I needed it. Of all things, I still need (from circulation) a 1970D. Have found all the other clads from circulation and have a set of the silver, circulated. It was put together from circulation many years ago. (emphasis on Many)

Where is there anything about 96W? I'm missing something.

What are you missing? What a 1996-W Roosevelt dime is? Or where he mentioned his purchase included two of them?

I didn't even know a W mint mark existed. What is it?

Here it is in his discription
(A little dizzying. Summary: 39 silver roosies (one proof) composing pretty close to a full set, a 68S cameo proof, two 1996W dimes, and five loose-change dimes. Not the deal of the century, but still worth a w00t)

I understand what he says was there. The title is "learning to read pays off".
Show me what he read, in the original auction description, that says anything about 96W.
If an auction has a roll of wheat cents, one of each year 1909-1958, and I buy it, I would expect a 1922d. If it shows up and there's an SVDB in it, why would I attribute that to carefully reading the listing?

Quote: "two 1996's (Uncirculated)" I would take that to mean an unc 1996P and an unc 1996D, certainly not two 1996Ws

even if the 2 1996W's weren't included the deal was still pretty good with 39 silver dimes in the lot.

Yup. When I bid on it I was only vaguely aware that a 96-W existed, and it crossed my mind that the 96s might be those, but no guarantee. But, I figured if nothing else I was buying silver for a decent margin under spot melt even with the depressed silver price... I've been watching, and the going rate right now seems to be 10x face. Plus getting a proof in the bargain. The W coins were a big bonus, since they're worth the bid price by themselves.
