coin is very sharply struck but it looks like it was dipped. the coin does not show much luster. may grade straight at au55 or so.

So to all the people who said they'd never purchase a details coin, would this be an exception? So yeah... I'm scratching my head on this one I'm not sure why this would classified as cleaned considering there are zero hairlines, no matter which way you turn the coin. And it's toned six ways to Sunday. I've seen much worse coins get a pass. So even if it was cleaned at some point, I'd have thought that this would be the textbook definition of "market acceptable." I was quite disappointed in this one. Thanks everyone for guessing! Any feedback about the grade is much appreciated.

Could you take out of holder and have regraded if in disagreement with the cleaning designation; or send it back as is for regrading?

Very nice bust half no matter if it was dipped/cleaned or not. If slabs matter to you this may be the one case where I would resubmit. I think this half is very much market acceptable. You caught a grader on a bad day or before they had their first cup of coffee.

The toning appears market acceptable from the images in my opinion. We've seen many bust halves posted that got the pass that look much worse than this one. Seated dollars even worse yet...

My experience with getting back questionable graded coins from PCGS as cleaned. The coin does have some minor evidence as being cleaned, but there are many coins in PCGS holders with market acceptable cleaning with straight grades that show more evidence of being cleaned than mine.
