With my Red Book in hand I view it not as a "shopping network" but more so as a sitcom... Then try to price their coins to the nearest dollar

It is just a normal TV practice to sell STUFF. Why not watch the HSN on TV for a great laugh? There is that tall, fat guy that has no idea of anything selling anything, anyone will buy. Ever go to a used car lot? IF you do you'll see and hear almost the exact same type of pitch. I suspect that most people on TV selling anything were at one time used car salespeople. I actually like some of those nutty TV adds. I really like all the ones that come out with a new weight loss machine or device. So as to selling coins, why not try almost anything? And I really love those statements about how rare a coin or coins are and to prove it they show you a page copied from ebay. It's all in fun so just enjoy them and feel sorry for those that fell for it.

Coin Vault is one of the ones I actually like. They are a bit pricey, but not outrageous. They present the stuff honestly and I have purchased from them before. If they have something I want that I havent found elsewhere, the extra money is, to me, simply a finders fee. I would also buy from Tomaska's show.
And please, save the indignity and something must be done rigamarole. If you dont like it, dont watch or buy from them. Like I dont watch nor would I EVER buy from that moron "Chopper". I mean, clearly, I watched him once, but that was all I needed. LOL

There are prices that make no sense on ebay, Amazon and almost every place else. You don't like it don't buy it. Early this year I went to go see Wicked with my wife in NYC. We wanted good seats, the best seats we found was on Broadway.com and they charged an exorbitant service fee, with great seats. So we made a decision to pay more for a better seat than a lower price. Was I ripped off, I don't feel because it was what I wanted at a price that I thought while high was fair, so I paid for the high service charge. Sometimes people buy expensive coins because of the presentation.

Best thing you can do to combat crappy shows like this one? Turn the tv off.

I suspect people who buy on such programmes believe everything they're told on TV is true, much as they believe everything that Donald Duck says is true or that everything they read in the paper is true.

I certainly do NOT believe ANYTHING told me on the TV or in the rags. Donald on the other hand is a font of honesty.

Quote: Something needs done as they are taking full advantage of non educated buyers. Difference in Capitalism and Price gouging. No, nothing NEEDS to be done. If you are selling something you can ask whatever price you want for it. There is, nor would I want some government entity out that deciding and telling me what I can ask for what I am selling. It is up to the buyer to know what the going market value is for the produce he is buying. "Caveat Emptor" let the buyer beware. Goes along with another phrase "A fool and his money are soon parted." Now there are some thing that you are NOT allowed to say. You can't promise a given return or usually even that they WILL make money on a purchase. It used to be you couldn't even mention the word investment, lest the SEC come down on you for selling unregistered securities. (That went away to a large extent during the GSA CC dollar sales when the GSA kept calling them an "investment". Hard to charge someone for a crime while you are committing the same offense.) That's why they will often call things "treasured heirlooms" you can pass on to your children and other such garbage. Their script/spiel may be misleading but believe me it has been gone over by their lawyers and there are no outright falsehoods or anything illegal in what they claim. They do NOT lie about what they are selling. They may make certain implications, but what they are hoping is the buyer will make inferences that are not actually supported by the evidence.

I have bought a few coins from the Coin Vault. Only once did I need to return a coin because it wasn't what they described. They have a no questions asked return policy.

The one I see most often is AVC, and while their prices like all others are still a bit inflated, they tend to be a little better. It's clear that programs like these are intended only for folks too stubborn to check the internet and/or lacking in Red Books. My grandpa and I occasionally watch it for laughs.

I have never seen The Coin Vault. I will have to check it out some time. I love watching the coin shows on TV. My favorite lately is RCTV. I love the way they present the coins. I would likely never buy from a TV ad but I know that others do. That is ok. I feel they are getting the word about coins to the general public and maybe a few people will actually start collecting. That is good for all of us. So don't complain. Just enjoy.
