Hope I'm wrong, but the fields appear to be polished to me. You can see some of the polishing drifted onto the devices around the edges, like Liberty's head. Also appears to have some dings on the lower right OBV unless it's in the plastic.

Why not just go ahead and submit it for 3rd party grading and get it over with?
While we sent here and offer up opinions from pictures the coin could be on its way to the grading service!

westernsky lol I believe it will be on its way in the next day or two. Have never submitted before so wanted some opinions/advice before I potentially waste my money on a polished coin. Thanks again everyone, I will keep looking for replies and opinions and will let you know when it's sent off and definitely the results.

I would also agree that the fields have been polished. All the lettering and stars on obverse appear to be polished over, fields have an orange peel affect you get with polished metal. Looks like someone taped over as many of the devices as they could and buffed it out, unfortunately. Just my 2 cents.

I have my concerns that it would come back cleaned or polished. My concerns stem from the second set of pictures which seem to show the stars, legends, and wreath with the same surface as the fields. If you look at the MS-68 example posted, you can see that all those areas mentioned has some frosting like the portrait and eagle though to varying degrees. Second, the toning on the tops of the wings strikes me as odd. Why would only that area tone but not the fields or lettering around it? If the coin had more toning and someone had cleaned it, the toning between the feathers would be harder to remove.

Nice looking coin but IMHO it has been dipped a few too many times. Not enough to drop it out of mint state, but probably enough to keep it out of gem grades. Guessing you'll get MS-64 PL for this one. As some have mentioned, the cheek seems to be missing original mint frost as do the periphery obverse devices. I do not think this coin has been polished. For a comparison here's my latest acquisition, PCGS MS-65, an 82-P, which has a lot of original frost.

Thanks for the update. It was one of those coins that's "too good to be true".
It probably started off getting a JewelLustre dip and it just kept getting played with over the years.
