Quote: You dont think the fields on this are almost perfect>? Yes, the fields are almost immaculate. If it wasn't for that deep mark on the shoulder, I'd have said MS-66.

Head and shoulders above your typical MS Liberty Eagle. Seems a lock for 64 and 65 seems possible based on the pristine fields. True, it's a common date but it is uncommonly attractive. If you want an excellent type example this one would be a winner.

Looks like a strong MS64, shot 65 in those images. No, this date is easy to find in mid-level MS grades with high eye appeal - you just have to pay for quality. For reference here's a PCGS MS64+ available at a $1,575 asking price. The coin in your images looks every bit as good. https://ncwcoin.com/product/1901-10...lus-64-PCGS/

I think 65 would not really surprise me.

MS(64), but a strong one! This looks better than my 1898 Eagle in MS(64)--but they were more conservative back then, or at least I'm told...

My guess is holder at 64 with a shot at 65.

@Jon, I'm sure you realize how hard it is to find gold with a razor sharp strike and pristine fields like this. Even though our grade opinions might be lower than what PCGS said, I hope that doesn't dissuade you from trading for this gorgeous coin.

$2300 PCGS book with a population of 892 and 137 graded higher.
I don't surmise the seller is anywhere near $2300

Personally, I wouldn't pay a penny more for a cac stickers coin. Especially a fairly common coin. That's not to say it doesn't have a nice look to it. You can possibly find a raw one with a similar look for a small premium over spot if you are patient.

I'm kinda of neutral when it comes to CAC, Sight White, etc, etc right up to the point it costs me 10% or so more. I have been known to come almost up to book, but that's it.
