Seller Response Can Make Or Break A Sale

was the coin listing set up to accept best offers, or did you just ask for a better price/discount? it makes a difference.

The lack of response over 10 days would be a deal breaker for me.

Yes, ebay frowns on buyers seeking/striking 'deals' with sellers outside the bounds of the listing as listed.

Now that you've moved on, could you post a link to the particular listing? Maybe someone else here might be interested.

There is nothing wrong, nothing violating ebay policy that I know of, with asking, politely for a lower price on a BIN listing.

However, you only ask once, and I normally ask 15% off at the most.

Buyers requesting more photos and offers to undercut, sorry in my opinion are the pests. I can't speak for other people but my coins are priced to sell and are generally cheap by other dealers standards (Yes I will never get rich, but its better than digging a ditch).

I have found every time, the people who ask for buy nows, more photos when you have plenty and want cheap offers NEVER, EVER buy.

Some dealers may also be selling literally hundreds of pieces and they range from $1000s down to $2 or $5. They are busy anmd probably get heaps of time wasting questions. Yet if you are a regular buyer, a known collector etc - they should at least try.

2 Golden rules for me.

1. If you ask a question and they don't respond do the check work, look at their account and other listings - if its just a few coins and some bad feedback, mostly cheap or overgraded stuff and they are also selling other things and junk like old videogames, car parts and DVDs etc - move on as you are not dealing with a professional.

But if there is heaps of coins listed, mountains of great feedback and much repeat custom - you have either struck a busy well known dealer or have asked a silly question. Stick with them and buy it if you like - If there is a returns policy even better. Any dealer worth their salt will not want their reputation sullied by bad customer service or outright scams.

2. If a dealer responds and their response is snarky, generic or looks like it has no passion such "If you don't like it, don't buy it" and "There are enough photos there" or something else to that effect - move on. Its your hard earned money and if they don't care about what they are selling and any potential customers, they do not deserve your money.

I will only ask once. No reply, no purchase. Had a seller react very angrily when I pointed out the "S" on an 09 S VDB did not look right. I did not say it looked fake, but his reaction told me I did not want what he was selling.

I tend to agree. There is so much against sellers on ebay. ebay always sides with the buyer. fyi as a buyer, please never complain about shipping time. It's not our fault the mail is backed up. If you don't get the package you'll get a refund. no need to worry.
