MS63 for me. The spotting causes severe detractions as do the abrasions on the reverse and the abrasions in front of the face and dings in the fields.

Spotting and nicks add up to 63RD for me as well.

SMS-63 sounds right to me too . Just doesn't have that SMS eye appeal .Or is it a business strike ?

I was waiting to see if someone would ask about the SMS status. It is. I have had it (the set) for a very long time - going on 40 years or so now. not that the matters but if I were to take it out of the cello package, it may look better, but I won't do that. Here's the proof of SMS coinage. Edited for typing errors.. (I just cant type 'the' correctly - always comes out teh) lol

That half dollar is by far the most valuable coin in your set. Those SMS halves are really buggers with cameo, especially the 65. Not a fortune, but still a pretty penny. DCAM is a different story... I've only ever managed to find 2 DCAM SMS halves unattributed as DCAMs. The first was purchased in an NGC MS67 Cameo and was a very hazy coin. Cracked and dipped and was then slabbed and sold PCGS MS67DCAM. The second was bought in a SMS set as an extremely heavily hazed coin. Even under the thick hazing I was confidant in it and I turned out to be 100% correct. Now a raw MS-65DCAM.

Congrats on finding those DCAM halves. Are you saying that my Kennedy half is a DCAM as well?

Thank you, and no, I'm saying your half dollar is Cameo, not Deep Cameo. Depending on the grade is likely Wirth between $20 and $60.

just to let people come to their own conclusions about the coin without undue sway one way or the other.

Have to agree on the SMS 63 call. Hard to tell about rim condition given the wrapper and lighting, but should be red.
Stay well, Diy89Nurm7
