Dimes--I estimated 2,000 at the beginning. My guess wasn't as close as it was with the pennies. There was only 1,119. Percents are of the total number of dimes not each type

1920's-2, .18%. 1 each of 1923 & 1929D.

1940's-340, 30.38%. Most 77 1947

Roosevelt-733
1940's-73, 6.52%. Most 35 1946
1950's-232, 20.73%. Most 36 1957
1960's-428, 38.25%. Most 140 1964

Quarters--269
Barber-1, .37%. 1908D
Standing-3, 1.12%. All have no year
Washington-265
1930's-3, 1.12%. 1 each of '36, '37 and '39.
1940's-73, 27.14%. Most 10 1943.
1950's-61, 22.68%. Most 7 1957D.
1960's-128 47.58%. Most 65 1964.

Like hockey, time for the second intermission.

In about a month I sorted 7,026 coins. I want to thank all y'all for your advice and encouragement as I was undertaking this process.

I have decided to keep the folders that he started and finish them up if I can. I will continue to save up the coins that came after the last that he saved. The rest of the stuff I'm going to sell and split the proceeds with my mother.

I am going to finish albums of:
Indian head and Lincoln pennies, Jefferson nickels, Washington quarters, and Standing, Franklin and Kennedy halves. The dollars while nice to look at I have too much catching up to do there so I won't be tackling those. I'm going to try the Indian Heads because they don't look like they are a several thousand dollar investment to find those in lower grades.

So in conclusion, I hope you are all happy, I'm OF YOU NOW! I have caught myself looking at the change I get back when I buy stuff!

I have already bought three Dansco albums and I am buying Littleton folders to put the newer stuff in until they get back up and running and I can buy the albums.

Thanks again for all your help!

If your dad "wasn't a collector" I don't know what that makes me!

I'm just glad that you're not selling them to melt. I hate seeing the lost history.

Forced into the hobby. Great story. Of course, most of us would love to sort through thousands of surprise coins every month.
I suppose you could consider keeping just one example of each of the dollar coins since you aren't planning on collecting more of those.
Overall, the sale should bring you nice sum. Have you considered how you will break up the lots to maximize your $$? I'm sure there are folks on the site that can advise you on what sells better (bulk lot, broken up into certain groupings, mini-sets, etc.).

I also had not visited this tread in awhile and am so thankful that you shared this journey, you allowed us to share parts of your thought processes and the joys of what you found. I too, am thankful you or your mom didn't just roll them and deposit them for face value in your bank account! I also agree with another poster....you aren't a noob anymore!!
