Maybe they checked the coins over an outdated catalog?

That is possible, but I guarantee you that he still made some money off of them! The real loser is the person that pawned them in the first place.

Quote: The real loser is the person that pawned them in the first place. I think most of the people who go to pawnshops are just happy to pawn at more than face value, since for sure they didn't buy these coins as they are not collectors.

Most of them are people that inherit them and cannot understand why someone would keep a bunch of coins in a book. But if they would have spent some time on a place like CCF, they would have come out much better, hence my saying they are the real losers in the deal. Of course, there are also those people that stole the coins. Although most crooks would just spend them, some do know they are worth something and will pawn them for quick cash.. These people are a different kind of loser.

Update- they had 4 more, 1987, 88, 89, and 94. The 94 and 88 look a little "off" to me, they probably got dipped because somebody thought they weren't shiny enough. Not too bad, tho.
Also had some proof sets (clad) marked at $25- 2000, 2002, and 2004. I talked them down to $18 for a 2002. Would the others be worth getting at that price? Only ever bought proof sets from the mint, and that was back in the 1980s...

If you got the 10 piece 2002 Proof Set for only $18.00 and it's complete with everything as issued by the Mint, it was a GREAT deal for they are going for around $28-$30.00 each.
The current pricing on the 10 piece 2000 is approx. - $13-$15.00 ea and the 11 piece 2004 is approx. $28-$30.00
You do the Math.
Looks like you may have found a little Copper, Silver and Clad Mine

Thanks! They had a duplicate of the 02, and I think two of the 04s as well, so I'll probably go back and see if I can pick up the lot of them... The tag seemed to say that they'd taken them in back in August, so I may be able to strike a better deal. Here are the goodies from the Lincoln book- I've got close-ups on the 40D and VDB (the 40 is an easy MS62+, to my eye), but my internet connection is killing me tonight. The ASEs have all been lightly cleaned, now that I've gotten them home to check with my magnifier. Ah well.
