I want to keep them. They will go in my collection, I've only seen pictures so far. They all look BU or better in my opinion

silver value at the moment is 8.80$ each. so you are paying a little over 14% over melt value..

If you have the money laying around and not having to need it to pay bills ,then go ahead and pull the trigger . The 64-D Halves in MS is worth a lot more than the 64-P's .

It's junk silver, no value above melt. You can usually find these at little/no premium over spot if you take your time and search around -- occasionally dealers will liquidate a supply to get rid of them.

If they are MS-63 or better , they are worth more than junk silver .

Quote: If they are MS-63 or better , they are worth more than junk silver. This is not something a typical collector is going to pay to have graded. So the statement, although perhaps true, is not a reasonable outcome. OP, is it your intention to submit all of these to a TPG?

My suggestion is to find a better way to spend your money.

I wouldn't pay more than melt. 64's were first of the Kennedy's, right after he was killed. Also, last year of 90% silver. So everybody kept them. Also, lots of people kept the mint sets. So MS 63+ examples are easy to find. I see the whole mint set, still in packaging, sell for melt at auctions.

Quote:"I have the chance to buy 49 1964 P Kennedy halves and 56 1964 D Kennedy halves! The guy is asking $1200 but I've talked him down to $10/ea. He has them in an album, but I don't think he collects enough to care about condition, errors and varieties. What should I do? Have I talked him down enough?" *** Edited by Staff to add Quote tags. Please use them in the future. ***Unfortunately on the coin channel this morning they were offering 20 BU 1964 Kennedys for 129$ or 6.25$ a coin. If you did indeed purchase already, you made another forum member feel better knowing they aren't the only person who over pays for a coin. Not happy you did that but I am not the sole member of that club!

Quote: Unfortunately on the coin channel this morning they were offering 20 BU 1964 Kennedys for 129$ or 6.25$ a coin. Maybe those were the more common 40% silver Kennedy's? I see that same deal listed on the internet right now for BU 40%. That price seems way too low for 90%. I think getting BU Kennedy's at melt is a real good deal right now, but it feels like there is a good chance the value could go down. In other words, you might be buying high to sell low... Obtaining halves for melt is tough other than through private sellers. Take a look at what APMEX, JM Bullion, and the like are asking for circulated coins. I frequently see people dismiss coins as only being worth "melt". Maybe if you are a wholesaler buying from the public. Post COVID, prices have changed from what I see, even for stuff like common proof sets. Through the channels I had for buying stuff, which included my LCS, in person auctions, online auction houses, and private sellers, it all has gone up with respect to premiums. That's why I am dipping my toes into roll hunting for errors and varieties.

And of course he showed all really nice halves. Were some 64 halves 40% silver?

'64's are all 90%.
Maybe they were offering'64's, but I am always skeptical of TV ads. Always seems to be a "gotcha" in it when it sounds too good to be true. Melt has them at $8.70 right now. $6.25 for BU '64 Kennedy's seems too cheap to believe. I think that if I bought them for that, I bet I could resell to my LCS for a small profit right now.

Check the Mezack offer again. I'm betting the $129 was actually three easy payments of $129. It's very unlikely you'll see anything close to that price from HSN or any other network that snake oil salesman is on for 20 1964 Kennedys.

Their goal is to take money out of, NOT put money in your pocket!
