Thats no good treas. I would send it back. That thing cost to much. Dont hesitate b/c you only have 7 days. I would call them first. It could be worth more though I dunno. I will let others chime in. maybe start a new thread for the best response. some people overlook threads with all these replys.

Yeah, if I can get though to the mint I will call. Since I ordered on Jan 22, I still have the 30 day return. 7 day went into effect Feb 10th I think. They just make it very confusing because the book is being shipped separately. I don't know if I can return it without the book, which I have not received yet. Also want to make sure I would not be charged the higher price on the exchange. It's just very disappointing to wait all this time and then get this!

I ordered mine 01/22 and it finally arrived yesterday. The coin looks flawless. I'll attempt to take some pictures today and I'll post them if they come out OK.
UPS happened to find us at home so they didn't just leave it on the porch, but they did not require a signature. Also, the carton was wet on the bottom and the moisture had soaked through to the cardboard mint box. Fortunately I was able to dry it off and there is no damage.
It does seem like the shipping process for these expensive coins is pretty darn sloppy!

I have been watching 18 of these auctions on ebay. I am surprised to see that the ones that are being offered as unopened are going for $1600 to $1800. The ones that have been opened are closing out at $1500 to $1600. There is a nice premium for the unopened boxes.

But if bought unopened on ebay, they're not planning on returning to the mint

They charged my debit card today. When should I expect it?

I've carefully examined my Ultra High Relief double eagle and I don't see any damage. However, it has very heavy die polish lines on the obverse. These really show up on my photos; they are not quite as apparent in hand. I'm wondering whether I should ask for a replacement. Die polish lines are as-struck artifacts of the minting process and aren't considered to be defects, but on a brilliant (and expensive!) coin like the UHR double eagle they are a bit distracting. I added a photo of the UHR next to a quarter to illustrate the size. It's small, but thick! Any thoughts about the polish lines?

I thought they were supposed to be proof, too! Wait... are they?

According to the certificate they are "business strike" coins. They don't have any cameo contrast to speak of, but mine sure looks a lot like a non-cameo brilliant proof!

They are meant to be business strikes and the first ones slabbed have been listed as MS-XX

I believe that the reason that these coins are selling so high on ebay may be that these first ones are first-strike and expected to be better quality than the later ones. The one I have is really beautiful. Seems to be flawless. It would probably grade out very high. These coins are closing out at between $1550 and $1800, mostly in the lower part of this range.

SoHumble, you should have it today if they shipped it yesterday. Mine came via overnight UPS.

Quote:But if bought unopened on ebay, they're not planning on returning to the mint If someone buys it unopened on ebay, and drops $1800 on it, they are hoping that they will have a pleasant surprise upon opening it. A nice coin that could bring down a high grade if submitted. But if they open it and find a problem (like treasurehunter did), then too bad...they cannot return it to the mint.
